Highlights
  • Whisky Village - A unique little village on the banks of the Mekong River. Ban Xang Hai, is also known as whisky village, is famous for their handicraft products like distilling and selling whisky, hand woven fabric and jewelry.
  • Pak Ou Caves - These two caves are located some 25km from Luang Prabang where the Nam Ou River flows into the Meking. The journey on a slow moving longboat to caves is decidedly picturesque. Motoring upriver you can see locals fishing and listen to the joyful laugher of children splashing in the water. The caves are revered throughout Laos and a very popular place for tourists and pilgrimsalike. There are some 4000 statyes abd statyettes in the caves, mostly of the Buddha, many stukk covered with paper thin gilding. The first cave is reached by a steep staircase from the river’s edge, while the second cave is a little deeper inside the mountain: bring a torchilight!
  • Kuang Si Falls - The Kuang Si Falls, sometimes spelled Kuang Xi or known as Tat Kuang Si Waterfalls, is a three levelled waterfall about 29 kilometres (18 mi) south of Luang Prabang.

Upon reaching falls, relax and enjoy the magnificent natural surroundings. The water tumbles down and cascades gently into several cool, clear pools where you can enjoy a refreshing swim. The adventurous may walk to the top of the falls via a steep track where stunning views are awaiting them. Kuang Si Waterfalls also is a place where a rescue center for protecting sunbears, the endangered species, is located.

  • Hmong Heritage Culture Center - On the way back from the waterfall, we visit a Hmong village. We walk through the village and stop at a small museum built by the villagers. We learn from the villagers dressed in traditional costumes about their original highland life.

Additional Information

Embark on a day-long excursion to the caves of Pak Ou and waterfalls of Kuang Si. We set off from the Luang Prabang boat pier in the morning. As you glide down the Mekong River, the breathtaking landscape of Luang Prabang will leave you awestruck. We’ll take a detour to the village ‘Ban Xang Hai’, where you’ll get a chance to sample local rice alcohol and rice wine. Following this, delve into the enigmatic cave with a local guide.

Feast on a buffet lunch at a restaurant that offers a stunning view of the Mekong river. Post lunch, we redirect our journey towards the waterfalls, where you can indulge in a refreshing swim in the chilly water. By 5pm, we’ll begin our journey back to the city, making a pitstop at a Hmong village on the way. Experience the Hmong culture firsthand as you interact with the locals dressed in traditional attire and visit their quaint Hmong museum. We’ll arrive at either the city center or your hotel by 6pm.

Alternatively, you can opt for a modified itinerary where the visit to the waterfall is scheduled for the AM and the cave exploration and sunset boat ride are moved to the PM. This variation offers the same activities but in a different sequence.

  • This tour is not hard at all. But it’s about 10 hours full day excursion including a long distance drive (60km). If old people and infants are in your group, please consider to choose 2 days split option or private option

Fantastic day trip from Luang Prabang - Fantastic full day out starting with a slow scenic boat ride up the Mekong enjoying the scenery and stopping for Lao whiskey on the way to Pac Ou caves. Delicious lunch at the elephant sanctuary before a slightly bumpy ride down to the kuang si waterfalls which were spectacular. Thin was a knowledgeable and engaging guide, highly recommended this as a must do in Luang Prabang

A grand day out - We did the half day version of this tour (to the Pak Ou caves and rice wine village) and it was a relaxing and enjoyable trip, with a lovely cruise down the Mekong river back to Luang Prabang. Our guide, Mr Pingpong was full of enthusiasm and charm, and looked after us well. Very happy to recommend!

Thank you Manifa for being flexible - Well organized. Pro client approach. We have booked trekking tour well in advance, however day before the trip we went to the office requesting change due to personal reasons. Manager on duty was very cooperative. Made the change and promised to refund my overpayment from previous trip. The payback was within two days. I found it very professional. We decided for one day private tour to the waterfall, cave and local villages. The guide, Mr Thin, was really good. Told us stories, history of the country, local habits. Good English. Tour was very relaxing, good for people just want to chill out. Return boat trip was a great summary after day of exciting moments.

The best way to experience Luang Prabang! - The perfect way to experience Luang Prabang! Vone was our tour guide and he was friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful! Even getting to the Pak Ou caves was a highlight of the trip since we traveled on a boat on the Mekong river. If seeing Pak Ou caves and Kuang Si waterfalls are on your trip plan, this is by far the best and easiest way to experience them (and more!).

Enthusiastic narrative and professional impression - The tour with Mr. Ping pong was great! The guide had a funny and exciting way of telling about the peoples of Laos. You spent the day as a group, but were allowed to explore the waterfalls and caves on your own. The organization seemed very professional and the guide always provided a relaxed atmosphere. Thanks for the great insight into culture and nature!
