It’s a chance to experience the Polish countryside and ask your guide all the questions you can imagine. He’s your host; his passion is to make you understand Poland and its history. Majdanek was a Nazi German concentration and extermination camp established on Lublin’s outskirts during Poland’s German occupation in World War II. The camp, which operated from October 1, 1941, until July 22, 1944, was captured nearly intact because the Soviet Red Army’s rapid advance prevented the SS from destroying most of its infrastructure. This site remains the best-preserved extermination camp of the Holocaust. It seems to be overshadowed by the Auschwitz camp museum, which is, sadly, overcrowded and has become a destination for mass tourism nowadays. Majdanek museum is a place one can visit without rush, in quiet and with respect to those who ended their lives there.

Following a 2.5-hour journey and an enjoyable conversation with the guide, visitors arrive at the Majdanek museum located in the outskirts of Lublin city. The camp preserves four sections: the selection square with shower barracks and gas chambers, the technical barracks housing the museum’s exhibitions, the entire field of barracks, and the crematory with pits and an urn of ashes. The area is enclosed by barbed wires and guard towers. The guided tour lasts approximately 2-3 hours, allowing ample time to explore the exhibition barracks and experience the site at a personal pace. After touring the camp, the guide will lead visitors to Lublin’s charming and historic Old Town. This district is recognized as one of Poland’s official national historical monuments, designated on May 16, 2007, and monitored by Poland’s National Heritage Board.
