Situated in the southwestern region, encompassing 1016 square kilometers, Nyungwe National Park spans across the formidable hills of southeastern Rwanda and holds the title as the most extensive montane rainforest in central and eastern Africa as well as one of the oldest, having existed prior to the Ice Age. This dense forest is a haven for biodiversity, with more than 1025 types of plants and in excess of 500 varieties of orchids and enormous lobelias. The park is a sanctuary for 13 different primate species, including chimpanzees and the Black and White Angolan colobus monkeys, in addition to populations of acclimated creatures such as Mangabeys and Blue Monkeys. Additionally, Nyungwe forest boasts its own Canopy, which is unique as the solitary canopy walk in East Africa.
