Lumbini Monastic Site - Lumbini is located in southwestern Nepal near the border of India. It is part of the plains of India and was once a very powerful ancient kingdom. A heavily pregnant Queen Maya Devi was in route to her palace when she went into early labor. By a peaceful pond, she gave birth to a prince. But this prince was destined to be greater than a king; he was to become the one to bring enlightenment to the world! It was here 2500 years ago Siddhartha Gautama, the future Buddha, was born.
