Highlights
  • Longmen Grottoes - When booking your private tour, choose from five departure times, which range from the morning to the afternoon. After meeting your guide upon hotel pickup, hop into your vehicle and set off on your exciting tour.

Your first stop is the Longmen Grottoes, which contain the largest and most impressive collection of Chinese art of the late Northern Wei and Tang Dynasties (316-907). These works, entirely devoted to the Buddhist religion, represent the high point of Chinese stone carving. These contain almost 110,000 Buddhist stone statues, more than 60 stupas and 2,800 inscriptions carved on steles. The grottoes are formed in 1 km of the stretch of Yi river and were carved on both banks, in limestone formations creating the Longmen Caves. Most of the work was done on the western bank, while the eastern bank caves, of smaller numbers, served as residences for the large groups of monks.

  • Peony Park - After a lunch in the local restaurant, you will spend some leisure time to enjoy the beautiful peony blossom at Luoyang National Peony Garden.
  • China National Peony Park Luoyang Peony Fair - Peony cultivation in Luoyang, which now boasts its own unique brand of charm and culture. After 1,500 years of history of cultivation, Luoyang peony is as eclectic in presentation as ever. As the largest the peony garden in China, Luoyang National Peony Garden stands out from other gardens for the various sorts, long florescence and more gorgeous flowers. China National Flower Garden cultivates about 500,000 peonies in 9 colors as well as a further 2,000,000 plants of 1,000 different species. Among them, a huge peony called “Flower Goddess” with an age of 100 years and a height of 2 meters (7 feet) gains public attention.

After your tour finished, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Luoyang.

Very nice! - Took the 730am high speed train from Xi’an to Luoyang and was met by Jerry, our local guide. Speaks good English and very friendly. Together with the local driver, they gave us an unforgettable day in Luoyang! First stop, the Grottoes! It’s unbelievable. Got to see it for yourself and you would be left wondering how it was done thousands of years ago. As we went on a public holiday (5th April), the queue and number of people were unbelievably long! Long walks and some steep climbing required. Please be prepared for this. It was also very, very hot so stay hydrated. Toilets are easily available and relatively clean. We took a boat ride back (not included in the tour, RMB25 per pax) and had a wonderful last look at the Grottoes. Went for lunch at a local restaurant (at our request) and Jerry ensured that we sampled some very nice local dishes! After lunch, we went to see Peonies which my wife loved it. It was also the first day of the peony season and we were lucky to be there. Lots of Sakura/ Cherry Blossom trees as well. But it was too hot and this took some fun out of the visit. Tour ended around 4pm so if you are going back to Xi’an, you can take any train after 5pm.
