A Journey Through Zambia’s Heartland

The moment I landed in Lusaka, I was greeted with the warm, welcoming smiles of the local hospitality team. Their genuine friendliness set the tone for the adventure that lay ahead. As a wildlife photographer, I was eager to explore Zambia’s rich landscapes and capture its vibrant wildlife. The first day was a gentle introduction, allowing me to soak in the local culture and prepare for the journey from Lusaka to Choma.

The drive to Choma was a visual feast. The lush greenery and sprawling landscapes were a testament to Zambia’s natural beauty. As we traveled along the T-2 Kafue Road, I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to the land. The night in Choma was spent under a canopy of stars, a reminder of the vastness and wonder of the African sky.

Discovering Livingstone and Its Wonders

The next leg of our journey took us from Choma to Livingstone, with a fascinating stopover in Kalomo. Here, I had the chance to visit the Kalundu Mound, a site steeped in history. It was humbling to stand in a place that once served as a colonial administrator’s residence and the first Standard Chartered Bank of North-Western Rhodesia.

Arriving in Livingstone, I was immediately drawn to the mighty Victoria Falls. The sheer power and majesty of the falls were awe-inspiring. As I stood there, camera in hand, I was reminded of the importance of preserving such natural wonders for future generations. The village tour that followed offered a glimpse into the daily lives of the local people, their resilience, and their deep connection to the land.

Thrills and Conservation in Mosi-oa-Tunya Park

Day five was a highlight of the trip, with an early morning game drive and a rhino walk safari in Mosi-oa-Tunya Park. The thrill of spotting wildlife in their natural habitat never gets old. Each encounter is a reminder of the delicate balance between humans and nature. The rhino walk was particularly poignant, as these magnificent creatures are under constant threat from poaching.

In the afternoon, I indulged in some adrenaline-pumping activities in Livingstone. From white-water rafting to bungee jumping, the options were endless. Yet, amidst the thrill, I was constantly reminded of the need for sustainable tourism practices to ensure that these experiences remain available for generations to come.

As the tour came to an end, I left Zambia with a heart full of memories and a renewed commitment to conservation. This 6-Day Overland Adventure was not just a journey through Zambia’s landscapes but a journey into its soul.
