“Khor Virap” means “deep dungeon,” and it was constructed on the site of the former royal prison at the historic location of Artashat. This prison is famously known for holding Gregory the Illuminator, the first Armenian Catholicos, for 13 years. It is no wonder that this site is one of the most revered places for Armenians worldwide. Additionally, it is the closest point to Mount Ararat from Armenia, often making it the top reason to visit the country!
- Noravank Monastery - Noravank is a treasure of medieval Armenian architecture. The church is notable for its unique two-story design, featuring a rare second floor in Armenian architecture, accessed by a narrow staircase, symbolizing the link between the earthly and the divine.
Encircled by towering cliffs and striking red rocks, this ancient site offers not only spiritual importance but also breathtaking scenery.
Here, you will find the sole depiction of God the Father in Armenia.
- T’rchuneri (Bird) Cave - The tour includes a visit to the Bird’s Cave. In 2008, archaeologists unearthed some of the world’s oldest artifacts here, including a leather shoe and a winery. The site also holds evidence of complex burial rituals and agricultural practices.
- Ar Areni Restaurant - Visitors will have the opportunity to taste and purchase Armenia’s famous Areni wine at the Ar-Areni winery.
