Khor Virap - Khor Virap is an Armenian monastery established in 642, with its name translating to “deep hole” in Armenian. It is a significant pilgrimage site for the Armenian Apostolic Church. Notably, the monastery was constructed on the site of a former royal prison where Gregory the Illuminator, the patron saint and first official leader of the Armenian Apostolic Church, was imprisoned for 13 years by the Armenian king. The monastery offers a unique view of the biblical Mount Ararat.

The region is home to many wild vineyards and numerous local grape varieties. T’rchuneri (Bird) Cave - Also known as Areni Cave, Bird Cave is situated near the Gnishik tributary of the Arpa River, at a height of 30 meters. The cave, carved into the rock, consists of interconnected spaces accessible even during holidays in Armenia. Archaeological research has been ongoing since 2007, uncovering artifacts from 4200-3500 BC, including pottery, plant remains, apricot and grape seeds, woven reed items, cloth pieces, and women’s jewelry. A wine production site, dating back 5000-5500 years, was also discovered here. The world’s oldest shoe, filled with grass to maintain its shape, was found during excavations and is estimated to be 5637-5387 years old.

Tatev Monastery - Tatev Monastery, a gem of Armenian medieval architecture, is located in southern Armenia in the Syunik province, 315 km from Yerevan and 30 km from Goris, near the village of Tatev. Built between the 9th and 13th centuries, the monastery is dedicated to St. Eustathius, a disciple of the Apostle Thaddeus, who preached Christianity and was martyred for his faith.
