The Golden Circle and Snowmobile tour offers an extraordinary adventure, allowing participants to witness some of Iceland’s most renowned and thrilling natural wonders, culminating in an unforgettable snowmobile ride on the Langjökull glacier.
The journey begins with a visit to the “Thingvellir” National Park, the historic site where the Icelandic parliament, Alþingi, was established in 930 AD. This park is fascinating due to its geographical and historical importance. Visitors can observe the impact of shifting tectonic plates, which have created significant fissures and crevices in the earth’s crust. Following this, the tour proceeds to the geothermal area “Geysir,” where eruptions occur every 5-10 minutes, alongside numerous small bubbling springs. The Strokkur geyser erupts more frequently than Geysir, reaching heights of up to 30 meters every few minutes. The Great Geysir has been inactive since 1916 when it unexpectedly stopped erupting. The tour continues to the majestic “Gullfoss” waterfall, often regarded by Icelanders as the most beautiful waterfall in Iceland, formed by the “Hvitá” river. The waterfall stands 32 meters (105 feet) tall. Here, participants can enjoy a lunch break before embarking on a modified glacier vehicle. Participants will then race across snowfields on snowmobiles, taking in the stunning mountain vistas amidst the icy wilderness. On the return journey, the tour also includes a visit to the large volcanic crater known as “Kerid.” Formed approximately 6,500 years ago, Kerid is located at the northern end of a series of craters called Tjarnarhólar. It is oval-shaped, measuring about 270 meters long, 170 meters wide, and 55 meters deep, with water depths at the bottom ranging from 7 to 14 meters. Kerid is situated in Iceland’s Western Volcanic Zone, which extends through the Reykjanes peninsula and the Langjökull glacier.
