A chapel of artistic perfection - To advertise this monument as a "private tour" is sheer nonsense. The monastery is open to the public. Anyone travelling from Geneva, Dijon or Basel to Lyon, and of course in the opposite direction, has to pass Bourg-en-Bresse. He or she should forget what he or she already knows: Bresse chickens have long been available at many markets. What many do not know, however, is the importance and beauty of a monastery, the Monastère Royal de Brou, which also justifies detours. It contains a burial site of architectural uniqueness. Margaret of Austria, one of the great personalities of the 16th century, had it built for her husband, Philibert the Fair, who lies in the centre, flanked by his mother and his wife, whose own, also "two-story" burial site extends into a chapel of artistic perfection.
