Embark on a breathtaking journey to Packhorse Hut, where all four of the historic “rest houses” that were once part of a magnificent walking experience over the Port Hills are visited. The hut is perched on a saddle above Lyttelton Harbour, offering unforgettable views of the Harbour and Banks Peninsula.
After being picked up from the port, the tour travels along the stunning coastal road to Governors Bay. The journey continues up Dyers Pass to the stop at the Sign of the Kiwi, then heads south along Summit Road to Gebbies Pass.
The walk begins and ends at Gebbies Pass, covering approximately 11km (6.8 miles) and typically takes groups 3-4 hours to reach the hut and return, including a lunch break at Packhorse Hut.
On the way back, the tour returns to Gebbies Pass and follows the scenic coastal road back to Lyttelton.
