Machame Camp (2,835 meters) to Shira Camp (3,750 meters)
Shira Camp - The second day involves a steeper ascent through the moorland zone. Gain considerable elevation as the landscape changes. The day concludes at Shira Camp, located on the Shira Plateau.
Shira Camp (3,750 meters) to Barranco Camp (3,900 meters)
Barranco Camp - Trek across the high desert plateau and pass the Lava Tower (4,600 meters). Descend to Barranco Camp, situated in a scenic valley beneath the Barranco Wall.
Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
Barafu Camp - On day four of the 6-day Machame Route hike, after breakfast, leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge up the Barranco Wall (4,250 meters/13,900 feet), through the Karanga Valley (4,050 meters/13,250 feet) to the junction connecting with the Mweka Trail. Continue up to Barafu Camp, completing the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from various angles. Camp here with views of the summit in the distance.

Mweka Camp (3,100 meters) to Mweka Gate (1,640 meters)
Mweka Gate - After breakfast, trek down to Mweka Gate. The pleasant trek through the lower rainforest slopes leads to Mweka Gate (1,640 meters). Covering 9 km / 5.5 miles, the trek takes 3-4 hours. Upon successfully reaching Stella Point or Uhuru Peak, receive official certificates – a green certificate for the former and a gold certificate for the latter. It is customary to tip the trekking crew before being transported back to the hotel in Moshi.
