  • Mount Kilimanjaro - Day 1: Hotel to Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast and a briefing, drive to Lemosho Park Gate. From there, a forest track requiring a 4WD vehicle leads to Lemosho Glades. Walk along forest trails to Mti Mkubwa (big tree) campsite.

Distance: 6km/4mi
Hiking Time: 2-3 hours
Habitat: Montane Forest

  • Mount Kilimanjaro - Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Distance: 8km/5mi
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

  • Mount Kilimanjaro - Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
After breakfast, a gentle hike across the plateau leads to Shira 2 camp on moorland meadows by a stream. A variety of hikes are available on the Plateau, making this an excellent acclimatization day.

Elevation: 3500m/11,500ft to 3850m/12,600ft
Distance: 8km/5mi
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Moorland

  • Mount Kilimanjaro - Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp
From the Shira Plateau we continue to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth” (elev 4650m/15,250ft). Shortly after the tower we come to the second junction which goes to the Arrow Glacier. We now continue down to the Barranco Camp. Although you end the day around the same elevation as when you began, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.

Elevation: 3850m/12,600ft to 4000m/13,000ft
Distance: 8km/5mi
Walking Time: 5-6 hours
Habitat: Semi-desert

Distance: 5km/3mi
Climbing Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

  • Mount Kilimanjaro - Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
We continue up to the Barafu Camp. You have completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day.

Elevation: 4050m/13,250ft to 4700m/15,350ft
Distance: 4km/2mi
Climbing Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

  • Mount Kilimanjaro - Day 7: Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp
Very early in the morning (midnight to 2 am), we continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At Stella Point you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit.

From Stella Point, you may encounter snow all the way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. Once at Uhuru Peak you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa!

From the summit we begin our descent by continuing straight down to the Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You may want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. We arrive at Mweka Camp and enjoy our last evening on the mountain.

  • Mount Kilimanjaro - Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Hotel
After breakfast we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy).

Monkey Adventures vehicle will be waiting for you at Mweka gate to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (around 60 minutes).

Additional Information

Lemosho route is one of the best routes for acclimatization. The route is less used and a beautiful way up to the Shira Plateau.

The route is one of the few where groups may be accompanied on the first day by an armed ranger, as the forests around the Lemosho Glades are inhabited by buffalo, elephant and other wildlife.

8 days Lemosho has one of the highest sucess rates. The additional days give your body more time to acclimatize, reducing the effects of altitude sickness and give you more time to rest before attempting the summit.

Great Achivement with the KWESA Kili Boyz! - Warm greetings coming from Seoul with love. We have not been able to forget the wonderful trip we had in Tanzania. It was everything Teacher told us it would be, and much more. Teacher was excellent with the planning and organization, he handled each and every aspect of the trip with fine precision such that we had a very smooth booking process. We had a great crew that made our trip special and enjoyable, they took excellent care and looked after our well being at all times. It was reassuring being around the team of expert guides, that knew what to do at all times. The equipment was also excellent, serving its purpose excellently. We enjoyed the panoramic views, clean fresh air and the actual trek! I felt so in touch with nature and one with the mountain. I am happy to report that we both summitted with comfortably. I owe the achievement to the excellent work put in by Edward and the Kili Boyz!

Kiliamanjaro climbing July 2024 - Climbing Kilimanjaro was the most amazing experience and Edward's Kwesa Tours and our amazing team of guides, cooks and porters made it possible. Our guides Haji and Mariki were amazing. They were informative, supportive and most of all fun to spend 7 days with. They successfully got our group of three up and back, plus they allowed my friend Patrik to paraglide flew down Kilimanjaro. Our cooks prepared amazing food every day and we ate very well. Our porters were amazing too. They took care of everything and even anticipated when you needed something before you knew you needed it. I highly recommend Kwesa Tours and Edward and his team! Come as a client, leave as family... Thank you Edward and the team.

Exceeded All My Expectations - I joined a group of five other climbers organized and perfectly executed by Kilimanjaro Wonders Expedition Safari. I started talking to Edward in April via email and he's proved to be a wonderful and trusted person. His responses were quick and always provided detailed explanations to my questions. He inspired confidence as his advice was always good. The whole booking process was transparent and above board, he explained what was included in the fees and how to manage the mandatory tips for the crew. I arrived in Tanzania on Sept 2 and as taken to my hotel. I finally met with Edward who also introduced me to Msaba who was the lead guide. They crosschecked my gear and helped me to hire some items that I needed. The actual trek was well planned and an epic adventure. I met with the other climbers and was particularly happy to have been paired with Selina from Spain as my tentmate. The crew was outstanding, they handled every aspect of our climb with surgical precision. From the expert knowledgeable guides Msaba, Martin and Ben who led us successfully to the summit. The porters were responsible for the campsites, ferrying the tents, supplies, setting up the tents and all the other amenities that we needed. Food was excellent at all times. There was plenty to eat and enough water, coffee, chocolates and shakes. If you are thinking of Kilimanjaro, be sure to contact Edward of Kilimanjaro Wonders Expedition Safari. Their service was outstanding and exceeded all my expectations.

Amazing Kilimanjaro Trekking Experience - We have just returned home from an amazing experience on Kilimanjaro with Kilimanjaro Wonders Expedition Safari. I appreciate the great organization and scheduling by Edward our host in Tanzania. He advice helped with the route planning and selection of the comfort level. Our pick-up from the airport was punctual and we found our hotel nice and homely just as we expected. Our experience on Kilimanjaro was awesome, the crew is very experienced and we had an amazing experience trekking with such great people. The equipment was first class and we had enough provisions for excellent meals, water, snacks and a well kitted first aid kit. After the trek we went on a three day safari to Tarangire, Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater. This was totally awesome and an excellent way to unwind and relax after the grueling trek. I highly recommend working with Kilimanjaro Wonders Expedition Safaris. They were totally outstanding!

Paragliding from the top of Kilimanjaro - In my case, climbing the top of Kilimanjaro was not the only goal. My dream was to take off from the top with paragliding. Regarding this extraordinary event, I bet everything in the hands of Edward - the leader of local tour agency Kwesa Tours. From the very first beginning I got the feeling, I made the right choice. But you have still doubts before finally meet up and start climbing... After first days on Kilimanjaro, all doubts definetelly disapeared. Everything was well organised on the highest possible level. The team of porters did a perfect job, the cook made excellent food thorough the whole expedition (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and the guide itself was (I believe) one of the best professionals on this mountain with alegedly more than 400 sucesfull summit attempts... Despite of my personal exhilaration on the summit day and high elevation sickness, the guides made their best efforts to help me overcome this, with 1 final night at the crater camp, which helped me finally succesfully achieve my dream - paragliding flight from the top of Kilimanjaro. The choice of this agency was cruical. Come as a client, leave as a family... Thank you Edward and team.

Amazing Experience of Kilimanjaro - From the first moment we contacted Edward to book the 8 day Lemosho trek to the actual trek in Tanzania it was a wonderful experience. I am grateful to Edward for recommending the route. The scenery was great and we had more time to get used to it. The crew is thorough and very experienced and provided us with excellent support. The hike took us through different climate zones. The guides kept us at a slow and steady pace, allowing us to get used to the high altitude. That paid off because we both successfully reached the summit. We got along well with our crew as they ensured our safety, checked our health twice a day and made sure we ate well. There was plenty of food with a good selection consisting of eggs, bacon, sausages, fruit, rice, potatoes... The tent was waterproof and equipped with comfortable sleeping bags. I have to thank the entire Kilimanjaro Wonders Expedition team for the great work. They are absolutely wonderful.

Excellent Kilimanjaro trekking - From the moment we contacted Edward in March, our experience with KWESA was phenomenal. Booking the trip was easy and we chose the 8-day Lemosho itinerary after carefully reviewing Edward's details. Our guides, Kileo and Philip were excellent. Both were very experienced, friendly and nice people. They were supported by 7 porters and 1 cook. They have helped us all to reach the top safely and in good health. The food was excellent and the tents were comfortable. We really enjoyed the first-class service from KWESA.

A perfect trek to the roof of Africa! - I did the Lemosho Route with Kwesa Tour on June 2024 as solo guided by Mariki and it was one of the best experience of my life! Lemosho Route has a wide variety of vegetations and offers a nice path and I think it is one of the best choices to conquer Uhuru Peak. Anyhow the best part was the support received by the team and my guide Mariki: unfortunately acclimatization was not easy for me and I had to face issues from second half of day two, untill the end of day four, nevertheless following the advices of Mariki and thanks to his incredible support I was able to complete the tour in 7 days. Kwesa also offers a cozy and familiar place to stay at killibase, don't ,iss the opportunity!

Don’t trust Edward - I would highly suggest you think twice before booking a tour with Kwesa. Edward is responsive and engaged but what he promises is not what is delivered. Kili Base Hotel is very clean and the one towel you are given is very thin and with rips. The very stained pillows have no pillow covers. The beds and sheets were clean. On our first day there, we wanted to take the Maturni Waterfall trip with lunch and coffee tour. Edward offered to take us for $210pp. I looked up in GetYourGuide and found the same tour for $70. Edward then offered for $70 saying”it costs that much pp to drive there”. Our Kilimanjaro hike was excellent! Excellent porters, guides and chefs but, the food was very meager. The equipment Edward supplied was in very poor shape- broken tent zippers, and broken sleeping bag zippers. For our safari after the Kili hike, Edward changed our sleeping location without our knowledge for the first safari night. We were supposed to be in a tented safari camp but he booked us in a hotel. There were a lot of other little incidentals that made us distrust Edward so beware.

Disappointing experience that will ruin your travels - Strongly do not recommend KWESA as we had a very bad travel experience with them, especially when it was our first time to Africa. My friend and I paid additional USD 200 each to stay in The African Tulip Hotel in Arusha, followed by a Arusha cultural tour the next day. This additional top up was agreed with our Kilimanjaro climbing package. But upon pick up from Kilimanjaro Airport, we were directly sent to Moshi. Even when we told the driver and staff, they turned a deaf ear and insisted on bringing us to Moshi. At Moshi, we had to stay at the crappy Kilibase hotel. We were only compensated with a Moshi cultural tour, and definitely not for the difference in accommodation standards. The first night at Kilibase, the room we stayed in did not have good running water for the shower. We changed to another room for the second night, and my friend's hand and back were bitten by bed bugs. Despite all these, our mountain guides and crew were very professional at all times during and after our Kilimanjaro climb. On our last day descending Kilimanjaro, we did not have proper lunch due to logistic and time constraint. But upon reaching back to Kilibase Hotel in the evening, their hotel staff served as horrible mountain food for dinner, as if they were trying to clear the left over mountain food supply. The hotel room did not provide any bottled water, and when I requested for it, the staff mentioned I had to pay USD 1 for a bottle. Totally appalled by such horrible service standards, especially not following the agreed itinerary and short changing us.
