A Journey Through Time at Ocmulgee Mounds

As I stood at the entrance of the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park, I was immediately transported back to the days of my youth, when my family and I would embark on road trips across the vast American landscape. The open road was our classroom, and every stop was a lesson in history and culture. Now, as a grandmother, I find myself drawn to these places that hold the stories of our past, eager to share them with my grandchildren.

The Ocmulgee Mounds, with their rich tapestry of history, beckoned me to explore their secrets. The smartphone-guided tour promised a journey through 12,000 years of human habitation, from Ice Age hunters to the Muscogee Creek tribe. As I began the tour, the narration unfolded like a well-loved storybook, each chapter revealing the lives and traditions of the people who once called this land home.

The tour began at the Visitors Center, a gateway to the past. As I walked the trails, the app guided me seamlessly from one site to the next. The Earth Lodge was my first stop, a place where the echoes of ancient ceremonies seemed to linger in the air. Continuing along the path, I reached the Great Temple Mound. Climbing its steps, I was rewarded with a panoramic view of the park, a reminder of the vastness of the land and the resilience of its people.
