Duration: 7 hours

Highlights
  • Mountain House - Embark on an adventure to the 2351m summit of Pico Mountain! This is the most iconic and unforgettable experience in the Azores, ideal for those in good physical shape, even without mountaineering experience.

Our meeting point is Casa da Montanha at 1200m, where we will brief the group, review necessary equipment, and receive our locators before starting our approximately 7-hour journey to 2351 meters and back.

The trail spans about 8km, entirely on volcanic rock, with an average slope of 30%, offering challenging elevation changes. In the initial part of the trail, signs like intense changes in breathing pattern or loss of balance indicate the challenging terrain and elevation differences ahead on Pico Mountain, and participants may find the activity unsuitable.

Participants over 60 or children under 12 are not included in the groups; please request a private activity at a different rate. All personal information must be provided.
*Reservations are subject to availability at Casa da Montanha.

Guided by the Best to Heavenly Views - Nunu was an amazing guide who ensured that our group made it to the top and bottom of Pico safe and sound. Nunu shared so many fascinating stories about the history, people, food and culture of Pico and the surrounding Azorean islands. Nunu is a caring guide with integrity, and an admirable sense of pride and love for what he does as a trustworthy leader taking visitors to Pico’s heavenly peak! My husband and I are grateful for his leadership in guiding us to Piquinho!

Not to be missed in Pico - Extraordinary experience! We were not lucky with the weather (rain and strong wind), but our guide Raisa helped us to maintain high morale in the group. The view at the top was worth it! Overall, not a super difficult hike, but you definitely need a good level of training to do it.

Esperienza favolosa!!! - Esperienza fantastica! Raisa is an extremely pleasant person as well as an extraordinary guide, with excellent individual skills and aptitude to also lead a group of different levels of experience in "mountain riding". As icing on the cake, a very pleasant surprise at the end of the climb, not to spoil 😉 good at speaking several languages including Italian ... password: Bora!!!

Must do - Fantastic hike! It's definitely worth it. Check-out at 7:10 and arrival at 14:30 below. I was a bit afraid it would be too difficult but we succeeded! Then we asked for a French Speaking Guide which made it easier for our teens to understand and interact with the Guide (13 and 15 years old). In the end the Guide spoke English... I would have liked a few more breaks to admire these magnificent landscapes. Be careful when you go to the rendezvous point. We have to hit the road at the Madalena Check-out because we ended up on a dirt track all at once. We had a road after Sao Mateo. Not great for the rental car... one last Trip Tip: put on sunscreen and mandatory hiking shoes. Couple refused because they were not well equipped
