Highlights
  • Muralla de Toledo - Toledo has had a wall from the Romans, which had to be rebuilt by the Visigoth King Wamba in 674. The current wall is of Arab origin where we can find some Roman remains.

King Alfonso VI, is granted the completion of the works of the wall in 1085, after reconquering the city.

Toledo has always had a great wall, well known throughout its history, taking center stage its entrance and exit doors, such as the Puerta de Bisagra, the Puerta de Alfonso VI or the Puerta del Cambrón.

  • Plaza De Zocodover - The Plaza de Zocodover is a square of the city of Toledo. It was the nerve center of the city during most of its history, acting as its main square. A part of it was designed by Juan de Herrera in times of the reign of Felipe II
  • Alcazar de Toledo - The Alcázar of Toledo is a stone fortification located in the highest part of Toledo, Spain. Once used as a Roman palace in the 3rd century, it was restored under Charles I and his son Felipe II of Spain in the 1540s.
  • Catedral Primada - The Primate Cathedral of Saint Mary of Toledo is a Roman Catholic church in Toledo, Spain. It is the seat of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Toledo
  • Synagogue of Saint Mary the White - The Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca is a museum and former synagogue in Toledo, Spain. Erected in 1180, according to an inscription on a beam, it is disputably considered the oldest synagogue building in Europe still standing. It is now owned and preserved by the Catholic Church
  • Iglesia de Santo Tome - The Iglesia de Santo Tomé is a church located in the historical center of the city of Toledo, and was founded after the reconquest of this city by King Alfonso VI of León. It appears quoted in the 12th century, as constructed on the site of an old mosque of the 11th century

Great Day-Trip from Madrid - Again Viator contributed to the richness of our weeklong experience in Spain with this outstanding day trip to Toledo, 45 minutes south of Madrid. The meeting place was easy to find, the tour was well organized, the bus was comfortable, and the structure of our day was perfect doing most of the walking in the earlier, cooler part of the day and providing ample free time to explore and shop. Most importantly, our guide was absolutely fantastic -- she has truly found her calling as a welcoming, knowledgable and amiable guide. She was truly one of the best guides I've ever experienced. Toledo itself will remind you of the small walled cities of Provence with its narrow winding streets and alleys, cathedral, and many shops selling food and souvenirs. I expected to be underwhelmed but, in fact, the art and architecture of the cathedral is truly impressive and the city is quite pretty. I highly recommend this tour if you can afford a day trip out of Madrid, and Viator has a great reputation for doing this well. If you can afford to spend another day outside Madrid, I strongly encourage you to take the high-speed train to Valencia for the day to explore the food market and have paella at Casa Carmela on the Mediterranean.

Interesting. - The visit was very interesting. Although there was a mistake and we got the visit in English when we ordered it in Spanish, our guide Oscar, translated most of it. They were also wrong and told us that our reservation was not when it was made and paid! They'll pay us back the money they charged double

Great tour, lots of walking. - We enjoyed the tour very much. There was a lot of information to process and tons of walking so come prepare to walk. Our only gripe would be the 2 hours of down time from 1330-1530. I feel it could’ve been reduced and returned to Madrid sooner. It’s a long day with a lot of walking. Other than that, Oscar was a very knowledgable guide and patient.

Great tour guide, but not for me - This style of tour is not for me. Specifically - the guide (who was lovely) did the tour in both English and Spanish — one after the other. Said another way, because of this - it took 2x the amount of time to communicate the information. And the group was huge - around 30 people. Not for me. I didn’t realize this would be the case. In the boiling 100 degree weather of August, I have zero desire to spend any extra time in the heat. If you don’t mind this part, then it’s a perfectly fine tour.
