Highlights
  • Royal Palace of Madrid - The Royal Palace of Madrid isn’t just a residence; it’s a place steeped in grandeur and history. Although the current kings reside elsewhere, this majestic palace remains the setting for important state ceremonies and solemn occasions, making it come alive with its significance.

Let’s dive into its story now. While Juvarra’s original vision didn’t materialize, the Royal Palace stands proud as Europe’s largest inhabited palace. The Spanish Royal Family might not call it home, but it still holds their official residence. Construction lasted until 1764, and when Carlos III finally inhabited it, the palace boasted a staggering 135,000 square meters, 3,418 rooms, 870 windows, 240 balconies, and an impressive 44 staircases.

It’s more than just facts and figures; this palace holds tales of splendor and tradition, making every step within its walls an encounter with the essence of Spanish history.

Must do - Great tour! Our guide was really knowledgable about the Royal Palace. In addition, I felt she was genuinely interested in people in the group and that made the experience great! I would book another tour to check out other places

Worth it! - This tour was well worth it. My wife and I enjoyed having a guide walking us a short distance to the palace. The guide was knowledgeable and kept everyone together. We would not have learned as much if we went without a guide.

Just take the audio tour. - Didn’t find the tour guide very engaging and was disappointed with the number of rooms that we were able to view. Also, tour was shorter than advertised.

Okay - Shorter than expected. Didn’t see as many rooms as I thought we would. Some interesting commentary, but I’d recommend just doing the audio tour.

Disappointing Experience with Unprofessional Guide – Make sure to read the Low Ratings - I recently booked the guided Royal Palace tour with skip-the-line access through Headout, and unfortunately, it turned out to be a highly disappointing experience. I typically use Get Your Guide for my tours and have always had amazing experiences by checking the ratings and reviews. However, this time, I chose Headout as I couldn’t find the tour on Get Your Guide, and it was a mistake I wish I hadn’t made. While the instructions provided were clear, and we followed them to the meeting point, things quickly went wrong. The guide barely interacted with us after we started walking towards the Royal Palace. The crowds were massive, which made it difficult to stick with him. Unlike other tours I’ve been on, where the guide holds a marker to make themselves easy to spot, this guide did not, and it felt like he didn’t care if we kept up with him. As we approached the Palace, we lost sight of him in the crowd. My husband and I spent about 10 minutes trying to locate him, checking all the entrances, thinking maybe we had walked too fast or too slow. Shockingly, the guide did not even wait at the entrance to ensure the group was together. This is something I’ve never encountered before, as every other tour I’ve done worldwide has had guides that are attentive and make sure no one gets left behind. When we realized we had lost him, I called the agency to ask for help. Instead of assisting, they blamed us, saying we shouldn’t have fallen behind. They claimed the guide had already entered the Palace and wouldn’t be coming back to get us. They offered no solution—no help, no sympathy, nothing. We even asked if they could reschedule us for the next day since this was our first time visiting, and it was so crowded. They refused and said nothing could be done once the tour started. In the end, we lost our booking, wasted our time, and had no support. Luckily, we were able to get another tour booked through Get Your Guide last minute for the next day, and the experience was vastly different. The guide from that tour was professional, attentive, and ensured the group stayed together. So here’s my advice—don’t ignore the 1- to 3-star reviews! I made the mistake of trusting the highly-rated reviews that Headout displays at the top, but the low ratings are there for a reason. If you value a well-organized, professional tour experience, you might want to reconsider booking through this platform. Save your money and time, and look for a company that prioritizes its customers.

Poor communication - Not getting connected with our guide. It was not obvious(not well marked)on info where the meeting point was. This caused us to miss our tour. The meeting place should be in bold print.
