Highlights

This tour has been organized to showcase two cities in central Spain: both timeless in their charm and both recognized as World Heritage sites. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, sunglasses if it’s sunny, and bring your camera!

Avila

Within the impressive and beautifully preserved walls of Avila, time appears to have stood still, making visitors feel like they are stepping back in history. The medieval ramparts protect numerous treasures - Romanesque churches, medieval convents, and Renaissance palaces. This cultural and historic gem, with its Old World charm, makes UNESCO-listed Avila one of the most fascinating cities in Spain. During the early medieval period, Avila was a coveted prize for both Moorish and Christian rulers until the Reconquest by Alfonso VI in 1085 secured its Christian future. Starting in the 11th century, the town was settled by many aristocratic families, earning it the name Avila de los Caballeros (“Avila of the Nobles”). However, the town’s cultural zenith was reached in the late 16th and early 17th centuries when it became a significant pilgrimage site following the death of the renowned mystic Carmelite nun Santa Teresa de Jesús. The natural setting is equally inspiring, as the town is situated on a high plateau sheltered by the rolling hills of the Sierra Gredos Mountains.

Segovia

Segovia also offers a rich historical legacy displayed in a modern yet inspiring setting. Originally a hilltop settlement, this historic walled town boasts stunning views and magnificent monuments, making it a true gem. Its Roman aqueduct, fairy-tale castle, awe-inspiring cathedral, and exquisite Romanesque churches and mystical monasteries all testify to a rich cultural heritage. Segovia’s complex history spans from the Romans of 80 BC to the medieval Moorish period and the coronation of Queen Isabella “the Catholic” in 1474. Most of Segovia’s attractions are located in the Old Town, a well-preserved medieval world of cobbled streets, winding alleyways, and hidden squares. In addition to exploring the well-known attractions, visitors should wander the narrow pedestrian lanes to discover artisan boutiques, cafés, confectionery shops, and restaurants.

Amazing tour! - This is an absolutely fantastic tour! A 10 out of 10! Our guide was amazing! Both cities are a must see! Our guide was knowledgable about both cities and the Church of St Teresa of Avila is a must. The Roman aqueduct in Segovia is amazing and not to be missed. Truly an amazing day! Highly recommend.

Wonderful day in Avila and Segovia - A wonderful private tour to Avila and Segovia! Our driver, Pavlo, was early and waiting for us, which was so refreshing (our other tours we had to call once the guides were late) Our tour guide, Mati, was so friendly and knowledgeable and on time as well :) She was always taking our pictures of us enjoying our time. In Segovia, we ate at a wonderful restaurant right next to the aqueduct where she knew the owner. We got wonderful service and even a little gift. It was a wonderful day!!
