Arriving in Magelang Regency, I was immediately enveloped by the warmth and hospitality of the local people. My stay at Jake’s Lotus 2 guesthouse was nothing short of delightful. The next morning, I embarked on the Village Tour with Nuri, Jafar, and Singhi, three local guides who were as passionate about their community as they were knowledgeable. Our journey began with a breathtaking sunrise view from a hilltop overlooking Mount Merapi. The early morning light cast a golden hue over the landscape, a perfect prelude to the day’s adventures.
Riding through the villages on motorbikes, I was introduced to the artisans and craftspeople who call this area home. In Gerabah Klipoh, I tried my hand at pottery, guided by skilled hands that have perfected the craft over generations. The tactile experience of shaping clay was both humbling and exhilarating, a reminder of the deep-rooted traditions that thrive here.

Our exploration continued in Tingal Wanurejo, where I was invited to learn the intricate art of Batik. The patience and precision required to create these beautiful textiles were awe-inspiring. Throughout the day, Nuri and his friends shared stories and insights about the local way of life. Over a special coffee, we discussed everything from cultural customs to the challenges faced by the community.
