Surf’s Up, Little Ones!

As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for activities that promise both fun and learning for my kids. So, when I heard about the Kids Surf Lesson at The Spit Beach, I knew it was a must-try. The idea of my little ones riding the waves with the stunning Surfers Paradise skyline in the background was too tempting to resist.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly team at Get Wet Surf School. The Surf Shack, nestled behind the Seaway Cafe, was buzzing with excitement. My kids, aged 6 and 8, were immediately drawn to the colorful surfboards and the sound of the ocean waves crashing nearby. Jason, our instructor for the day, was a bundle of energy and instantly made the kids feel at ease.

After a quick check-in and equipment fitting, we headed down to the beach. Jason gathered the kids and a few other eager learners for a safety briefing. His approach was both informative and entertaining, ensuring the kids understood the basics without feeling overwhelmed. With a maximum of four kids per instructor, I felt reassured knowing they would receive plenty of personal attention.

Catching the First Wave

The moment had arrived for the kids to hit the water. Watching them wade into the shallow waves, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. But Jason’s confidence and expertise quickly put my mind at ease. He guided them through the process of getting used to the waves and practicing crouching on the board.

The kids’ faces lit up with joy as they attempted to balance and ride the waves. It was heartwarming to see them fall, laugh, and get right back up, determined to try again. As we wrapped up the lesson, we gathered around to look at the photos captured during the session. The images of my kids riding the waves, or “falling with style” as Jason put it, were priceless. It was a day filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories.
