If you are like me, lady in her mid 50-ties please read :) - Review for Quad Safari with Monastery, Malia Palace and Lunch with Malia Travel. Please read this if you are like me, lady in her mid 50-ties 😊. I went on this tour with my 11 year old son and I must to say he loved it and he give 5 star, but for me unfortunately there were some hiccups that you might want to be aware about. Description says you will receive proper instruction on how to operate the quad-bike, but to be honest all instruction took about 30 seconds telling me to use my right thumb for gas and fingers for break, that all else is automatic. I think they did not go to explaining how the shift stick works as they were bit fiddly to manage (not sure if older), so they were doing that themselves. Start of the tour is short part ride in the city = out of the agency until the first part of the dirt road. Here the hiccups started as label does not tell you there are very large stones all over the road. I mean very sharp pointy stones sticking of the ground, some up to 15cm / 6 inches of the ground, many at some places. There were few 45 degree turns that were narrow and full of stones that were throwing me of the road a bit as handles / wheel on my bike was tilted bit to the right, also bit hard to turn. That meant I needed to reverse to get back on track, but they do not show you how to use shift stick. Imagine, tour had 14 bikes + 2 leaders (one front and one at the back) = 16 bikes in a row one right after another. So, when I got out of the road a bit, the front leader had to run to me in the middle, he had to put stick in revers for person behind me as they were so close I could not reverse, then help me to reverse and everyone else had to wait. When I had the second hiccup, I observed by that point how to move stick to reverse, I managed to reverse, but then did not managed to move stick back to gear, I did not want to force it and break something. I observed that even the leader guy had to wiggle the stick back and forth few times before stick clicked to the correct spot (so this this was not just me). When the leader (lady) came to me this time she just said “lady, if you cant do it here, I will not risk it with you in the mountain to drive of the cliff and you can either go back to hotel or you can split with your son and one will go with me and other with other leader.” OK, here it comes to two separate point of views: 1. I can understand she is responsible for large group and have to make decision fast. I can also imagine they are all waiting on me. I can also imagine they did not clear those large stones possibly on purpose as many probably have the thrill of bit of a rough ride on those quad-bikes. 2. I paid 160 euro for 2 of us which is not cheap. I did not receive proper instruction on how to use the bike properly. The thing is, I learned later that only this first dirt road had narrow spots and sharp turns and large pointy stones all over, more over at that point we were less than 500 meters away from the end of it and back on the wide regular road. This could have been managed better on the part of the leader (lady) that instead of providing guidance or reassurance simply gave me ultimatum. No one asked me what was the problem. Possibly if they asked they would be able to reassure me that stone road will end shortly and the rest of the ride is either on the completely wide regular road or maintained dirt road that then lead to monastery that was suitable even for the regular car to pass on. So yes, seeing the rest of the road I felt completely gutted as I do not think I would have slightest issues once out of that not maintained stone road at the start. I felt they made me feel I cant do it, sort of failure, spoiled my mood for the rest of what could have been amazing experience otherwise. I also think they took us on that stone road just for the thrill seekers, I think we could have gone another route. But I get it, it must be thrill and fun for many. As I said, most of the trip was on the normal road, but she spoke to me like this stone road will be in the mountains and cliffs all around, which was simply not the case. And yes, I would prefer to get full instruction, so that I can use the shift stick if I need to as I managed to reverse and wanted to continue, I was not that scared that I simply could not go forward, but instead I felt they gave up on me simply too fast instead of giving me full information and assistance. I think tour is very good but if you are like me probably consider buggy rather than quad-bike?
