Experience the ultimate 4WD challenge where you’re at the helm. Strap in and embark on an off-road expedition deep within the indigenous forests of New Zealand. Off Road NZ is situated in an area that saw intensive logging of native timbers by early 20th century pioneers until its cessation in the 1970s. The same paths used by those early pioneers are the ones you’ll be navigating today.
This is an indelible opportunity to self-drive a powerful Suzuki Jimny 4WD equipped with automatic transmission and power steering.
From 45 minutes up to an hour, this is an adventure fit for all ages, with no charge for children under 5!
You don’t need any prior 4WD experience, just a valid driver’s licence.
- Maximum four people per vehicle
- Drivers must have current drivers licence from country of origin, please bring with you into Reception for us to see.
- Those without a driver’s license can participate as passengers
- Children 4 years and under go free - personal car seats required.
- Please arrive 15 minutes before your selected departure time.

Drive north from Rotorua on SH5. You will pass the Agrodome. Drive approx 15 minutes until you reach the top of the hills and the road straightens and flattens out. Take Maraeroa Rd on the left, travel 2 km and turn right into Amoore Road. Follow the signs to Off Road NZ.

Great way to try 4wd - Great experience! Some genuinely novel and interesting driving situations that you’ll likely only be able to do here!
Staff was super accommodating when we had GPS issues getting there. Very friendly and well informed.
My 10 year old loved being a passenger.

Best Activity in Rotorua Region! - Self-drive of their 4 wheel dive vehicles though off road tracks and water hazards was the best activity we did in Rotorua. Particularly awesome was the 6metre vertical drop. My partner and I were able to take turns at driving. Oud guide Dom was real friendly and helpful too.

Awesome - We did the Ultimate which involved the thrill ride, the self drive safari and the go carts. AWESOME!!! Brilliant, fun, exciting. We will be back. Our guide Tom was excellent.

Awesome adrenaline rush - Great wet day activity you stay completely dry.
Our guide was awesome. And it was just what we needed after spending a week in the rain.
We looked online first and there were no options coming up on that same day. but thought we’d ring anyway and there were loads of options. so definitely ring if you’re looking at going the same day in case.
There was a lot of squealing from our 2 daughters, but they loved it overall.

The visitors in their... - The visitors in their Jeeps are getting guided by guys who walk around and tell via DB Radio what to do, that slows the speed down enormously.
All in all the circuit is nice and we‘ve had fun at a few steps.
