Located in the north of Mindanao, Philippines, is the volcanic island of Camiguin, also known as the “Island Born of Fire”. It’s positioned approximately 100 kilometers north to the city of Cagayan de Oro in Misamis Oriental. Resembling the Hawaiian islands, Camiguin was formed as a result of volcanic activities and tectonic shifts, hence can be referred to as the Hawaii of South East Asia. The island, decked with seven volcanoes including the still active Mount Hibok-Hibok, last witnessed an eruption in 1953. Adorned with natural and historical marvels, it’s a haven for nature and history enthusiasts alike. One of the standout features of Camiguin is a deserted white island, situated around two kilometers from the coast of Agoho. This land formation, actually a sandbar, provides a dominating view of Mt. Hibok-Hibok and it notably goes underwater during periods of high tides.
