- Mount Mahawu - Mount Mahawu is a stratovolcano located east of the Mount Lokon-Gunung Empung volcano in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. From a distance, Manado Tua Island and the surrounding islands appear to float in the vast Sulawesi Sea. Mount Mahawu has a crater 180 meters wide and 140 meters deep, with two pyroclastic cones on its northern slope, and it reaches a height of 1,311 meters above sea level.
The Minahasa people named this mountain Mahawu because it frequently emits ash. It is also known as Mount Roemengas. The mountain experienced a minor eruption in 1789 and a fumarole mud eruption with geyser activity in 1994, followed by another event in 1999. Although it is no longer active, the smell of sulfur is still noticeable. The crater lake has reduced in size as some of its edges have dried up.

- Extreme Traditional Market Tomohon - The Tomohon City Faith Market, known for selling various unconventional animal meats, is an extreme market. - Mah’watu - Paletupan Mahwatu in Lahendong is an alternative tourist attraction worth visiting when looking for something different from the usual Manado tourist spots. Located in South Tomohon, Tomohon City, North Sulawesi, it takes about an hour to reach Paletupan Mahwatu from the center of Manado City.
- Tomohon - Tomohon has been mentioned in historical records, including the ethnographic work of Rev. N. Graafland, who wrote about it on January 14, 1864, during his visit around 1850. The name Tomohon is derived from the Tombulu language (Tou mu ‘ung), and it is one of the areas included in the Tombulu ethnicity, one of the eight Minahasa ethnic groups. Over the years, Tomohon has developed into one of the capital cities of the Minahasa Regency.
In the early 2000s, the people of Minahasa Regency expressed aspirations for regional expansion. The reformation and regional autonomy policies accelerated the process, leading to the formation of South Minahasa Regency, Tomohon City, and North Minahasa Regency, supported by the Provincial Government of North Sulawesi. The Central Government established South Minahasa Regency and Tomohon City through Law Number 10 of 2003 and North Minahasa Regency through Law Number 33 of 2003.
Following the 2004 General Election, the Tomohon City legislative body enacted Tomohon City Regulation Number 22 of 2005 concerning Regional Symbols and Tomohon City Regional Regulation Number 29 of 2005 concerning Tomohon City Anniversary. Tomohon City was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Home Affairs Hari Sabarno on behalf of the President of Indonesia on August 4, 2003.
- Manado - According to legend, the city of Manado originated from “Wanua Wenang,” founded by Ruru Ares, also known as Dotulolong Lasut, in the 13th century. Another version suggests that Manado developed from a place called Pogidon. The name “Manado” began to be used in 1623, replacing “Pogidon” or “Wenang.” The word “Manado” comes from the Minahasa language, meaning “far away.” By the 16th century, Manado was known internationally for its earth products.
In 1919, the Dutch East Indies Governor General designated Manado Gewest as a Staatsgemeente, equipped with a Gemeente Council headed by a Mayor. In 1951, it became the Manado City Region of Minahasa, and in 1953, it was designated as the City of Manado. In 1957, it became a Township, and in 1959, it was established as a Level II Region. In 1965, it became the Municipality of Manado, led by the Manado Mayor KDH Level II Manado.
The anniversary of Manado, set on July 14, 1623, commemorates three historic events: the Red and White event of February 14, 1946, the Governor General’s Besluit of July 1919, and the year 1623 when Manado was first officially recognized. The city celebrated its 367th anniversary on July 14, 1989, and this date continues to be celebrated as the anniversary of Manado City.
