- Bahrain National Museum - The Bahrain National Museum, one of the Gulf’s pioneering museums, was inaugurated in 1988. Its location by the sea is a major draw, enhancing its modern atmosphere with a striking white travertine façade and a dramatic courtyard adorned with contemporary sculptures. The exhibition halls display artifacts from Bahrain’s numerous archaeological sites, highlighting the island’s rich history spanning 6000 years. Besides archaeological exhibits, two halls are dedicated to local customs and traditions, showcasing clothing, housing, rituals, and traditional crafts.
- Qal’at al-Bahrain - Known as Bahrain Fort, Qal’at Al Bahrain is believed to have been the power center of the ancient Dilmun civilization and holds UNESCO World Heritage status. The fort occupies a strategic military location, allowing for the monitoring of navigation movements. Excavations have uncovered ancient soldiers’ barracks, horse stables, an ammunition depot, a secret passageway, ceramic utensils, and Islamic and Chinese currency coins.
- Royal Camel Farm - The Royal Camel Farm is a privately owned establishment and a must-visit for those whose only experience with camels has been through a zoo or television. Camels are large, robust desert animals capable of traveling long distances across hot, arid deserts with minimal food or water. They easily traverse soft sand where trucks might get stuck and transport people and heavy loads to roadless areas. Camels also provide various other services to desert inhabitants, carrying their own food supply in the form of a hump, which is a large fat reserve that provides energy when food is scarce.
- King Fahd Causeway - The King Fahad Causeway, opened in 1986, is an impressive 25km engineering marvel connecting Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. It ranks among the world’s most expensive bridges. The causeway crosses Umm Al Nasan Island, a wildlife sanctuary, and features a facility area with a tower restaurant at the midpoint, which visitors can enjoy even without traveling the full distance to Saudi Arabia.
Note: The tower is currently under reconstruction.
