In addition to the famed Greater one-horned rhinoceros, the haven is a propagation site for elephants, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer. The tiger count has grown over time in Manas, thus leading to its designation as a Tiger Reserve. Furthermore, BirdLife International has acknowledged the park as a Vital Bird Area for preserving various bird species. Birds such as the Giant Horbill & lesser white-fronted goose, ferruginous duck, Baer’s pochard duck and lesser adjutant, greater adjutant, black-necked stork, and Asian Openbill stork particularly migrate from Central Asia during the winter months.
