- Ndoro Waterfall - We’ll depart from Moshi at dawn, tracing the base of Kilimanjaro with the morning sun to our east. Our initial destination is the Ndoro Waterfalls for a breath of fresh air after breakfast. A half-hour trek will take us to the waterfall’s base through a verdant forest and a sharp descent to the stone. Witness the glistening cascade as it plummets from the cliff or immerse yourself in the invigorating waters of the pool below.
A stark contrast awaits with a tour of the expansive Chagga Underground Caves, constructed by the Chagga as a refuge from the Masaai who historically ascended the lower reaches of Kilimanjaro to capture or slay them. We’ll dedicate an intriguing hour or more at the Chagga Live Museum, an open-air exhibit that provides deeper understanding of the Chagga’s ancestral ways. The presence of roaming goats adds a touch of realism! We’ll conclude our eventful day with a playful sip of banana beer or a mischievous glass of banana wine - after all, we’re in the heart of banana territory, so let’s enjoy it to the fullest!
The aroma will clue you in on our next stop before we arrive. Marangu is renowned for its coffee, with beans that are locally cultivated, mixed, and roasted. We’ll visit a quaint coffee plantation, where you’ll discover the local methods of growing, picking, and processing coffee beans that thrive in these ideal conditions. You’ll also have the opportunity to engage in the roasting process and brew your own delightful cup of fresh coffee.
With all this cultural immersion, you’re likely feeling peckish, so we’ll head to a charming local eatery for a delectable and authentic Chagga meal, complete with a warm dish (vegetarian options available).
As we leisurely drive back to Moshi, feel free to relax; we won’t mind if you doze off en route, though the journey offers plenty to observe as we meander through the villages, foothills, and roads leading home. After such a rich array of experiences in a brief span, you’ve earned some downtime at your hotel.
