Additional Information

The Jewish community has had a significant presence in Morocco over many millennia, impacting commerce and cultural elements. This is clearly noticeable in each Moroccan city’s Mellah - the historic Jewish district or ghetto. Among these culturally significant sites, the Mellah still thrives and is cherished in Marrakech. As you stroll through the Mellah, your tour guide will shed light on the Jewish history of Marrakech and their unique contributions while exploring the district’s unique architectural style, interacting with herb and spice merchants, touring the marketplace, and encountering many other pockets of interest. The itinerary includes a visit to the Slat al-Azama Synagogue and the Jewish Cemetery (except on Saturdays).
Morocco, being a region of historical and strategic importance, has seen various civilizations since ancient times. As Marrakech residents, we possess local knowledge about the whole city. A customizeable tour schedule may incorporate extra stops within the Medina like visiting the Jamaal Elfna square, shopping, or even exploring the incredible handicraft workshops within Marrakech’s souks.

In-depth Adventure - This was the fourth time Noura has taken my wife and I on excursions. She is knowledgeable and very personable. Very flexible with our plans and accommodating to our needs as older people, she is a wealth of knowledge. We particularly enjoyed our unrushed visits to gardens, architectural monuments, markets and an herbal pharmacy. Highly recommended!

A moving and beautiful tour! - We were not sure what to expect, however we were thrilled with the tour. Our guide, Ismail was amazing and so knowledgeable. He took us at just the right pace, and made sure we had all the history of the Jews and their connection with Morocco. He showed us everything we wanted to see. The synagogue we saw was very moving and beautiful. There is a great deal of Judaica throughout Marrakesh. He also specifically took us to a former synagogue where the grandfather of a relative of ours used to attend. Ismail always gave us options and made sure our day was perfect. It was. Thanks Ismail.

Pls see comments above. - I would give the rating between Average and Very good. This is because our guide was knowledgeable, on time and very hospitable. However, I think the tour content was not entirely on Jews. The total tour time is 2hrs, out of which about 1hr was on Jewish history. The next 1hr was general history and information about Morocco, Marrakech and the souks. As the tour was entitled Jewish heritage, my expectation was that most of the content would be on it. I had already explored other areas of Marrakech and had read up on Morocco, so the last 1hr was just a repeat for me. This tour needs to either entitled differently or the Jewish related content needs to be increased to atleast 1.5hrs. As it stands today, this tour would be good for someone who has just arrived in Marrakech and wants to get a combined impression of its Jewish past + general history of Morocco and Marrakech + souks.

Jewish Marrakesh - The synagogue was very interesting/ Nora is very knowledgeable. Nora took us to the Hamman to ensure our booking was sorted and we knew where it is for our forthcoming treatment. Unfortunately we felt the price was excessive for Jewish Marrakesh considering there was really very little to see, that is no way reflective of Nora’s ability.
