Le Jardin Secret - Medina - Marrakech - Le Jardin secret is divided into an exotic garden and Islamic garden. The exotic garden is filled with plants collected from all over the five continents , recalling the experimental aspect of the great gardens and orchards of Marrakech. the origins of the complex date back to the Saadian dynasty four hundred years ago.
Built in the mid-nineteenth century by an influential Kaid of the Atlas Mountain, the Jardin secret has been the home of some Morocco and Marrakech’s most important political figures. Visitors can discover it’s gardens and buildings, which are outstanding examples of Islamic art and architecture. -
Dar El Bacha - Musee des Confluences - Dar El Bacha-musee des Confluences is a historical palace in the old Medina of Marrakech. It dates from the early 20th century and was built by the wealthy and powerful EL-GLAOUI family. The site occupied by two residences ( the grand Riad and the small riad), physically adjoining each other.
In addition to its rich interior, it is notable for its large courtyard garden, the small riad also called Douiria is known by its very detailed geometrical zellij, specially the yellow colour mosaïc which cannot be seen in any other palaces, and used mainly as artworks exhibition.
The palace is considered one of the finest exemples of the late 19th and early 20th century domestic architecture in Marrakech. It covers two acres. Its layout and form are a bit atypical of other Moroccan mansions of the era, especially compared to the more classical architecture of it’s nearby temporaries like Dar El-Menabhi and D’ar Si-Said which both are also became Museums. -
Ben Youssef Madrasa - Marrakech’s 16th century former Koranic school is one of the best examples of Islamic architecture, marvellous cedar woodwork façades, exquisite stucco, colourful zellij, slabs and columns of carrara marble, dormitories’ cells-like rooms where the up to 700 students were housed.
In addition to learning the Koran, students would also immense themselves in Islamic law and the sciences.
