An excellent way to spend three days! - Great tour! Even though the weather did not cooperate — rain for the first time since October 2023! — it was a cool experience to see “the desert miss the rain”! A few highlights:
- Luxury camping experience was definitely worth the extra money, especially after speaking with the other members of our tour who opted for the Standard camp.
- Riding the camels (dromides) was incredible. They are a very silly and sweet animal.
- Folks on our tour were super lovely, and we were truly a “mixed salad” as our guide noted (Canada, US, UK, Venezuela, Italy, Germany, Japan, Costa Rica, Spain)!
Downsides/realities of a trip like this:
- Van life is tough by the third day. It’s about a 7 hour drive from the desert to Fes with some hairpin turns and stinky fellow travellers. My partner and I have travelled like this many times before so we didn’t find it too rough, but others in the van were definitely over it by the third day.
- The food, while great, gets a bit repetitive. Don’t burn yourself out on tajine dishes before the trip because you’ll be eating it for most meals!
Really glad to have had this experience! Thanks to Hakim/Hakeem for being a great driver and guide!

A great experience in the Sahara - 【About moving】
The car to get around is cool and very comfortable, and it takes about an hour to rest in the bathroom, so you can get around without hesitation.
On the second morning, after you leave the inn, you can't go to the bathroom for 2-3 hours before the Todola Gorge, so be a little careful about that.
【Dates to the Desert】
He drove to near Merzouga, rode a camel, and from there went to the inn.
After a 20-minute ride on the camel, get off once at the halfway point and wait for sunset, then ride the camel again for about 20 minutes to reach the inn. The same goes for the return journey.
【About lodging in the desert】
We recommend the type with bath and toilet and air conditioning. It is very comfortable.
The air conditioning is new and you can sleep very cool.
【Cautions】
For those who are not good at English, here's a list. Your Guide will explain in English, but you can't take your carrying case with you when you stay in the desert on the second day. For this reason, you will need to repack your clothes, charger, contacts, and other necessary items before you leave the inn on the second morning.
I repacked myself into a larger bag with a North Face. Some of them carried me in an S-size carry case for two days and one night, so I think they would carry a small carry case.
【Dinner time】
Dinner on Day 1 is 20:30
2nd day breakfast at 7:30, departure at 8:25, dinner at 21:00
Breakfast at 5:30 and departure at 6:00 on the third day
【Others】
- Pickup location to the inn, but you will be contacted by the Tripadvisor Team app the day before.
I made an inquiry in advance with the app just in case, but I didn't get a reply until the day before. The other guys were talking about the same thing, so I think we're all the same.
・You will be asked where to pick up and drop off at Fez at the rest area on the way to Fez on the last day. I offered a place to stay on booking .com.
· There is a pool area in the courtyard of the first day inn, so if you want to go in, you should bring a swimsuit.
Overall, it was a wonderful trip.
I would also like to use it.

Once in a lifetime experience, with some caution - Not gonna lie it’s a great experience. Definitely once in a lifetime
Just couple of things that was expected but still affected the experience
1: we stopped in places that sell you rugs, paintings etc. which is a waste of time
2: in the movie town, too little time was spent there. We could’ve spent more time to take pictures on the top, but we were trapped in the stupid room to teach you about all the paintings
3. I don’t know why we need to see the stupid Berber fields. Maybe to make money for local guides. Or maybe it’s too hot to go to the desert earlier so that they had to find something else for us to do
4. Suspension of the minivan is not great. Be prepared for broken butts
Other than those, the time in the desert was a BLAST. I guess we pay all the amount for that 15~ hours in the desert
Couple of other things to note
1: on the bathroom breaks, locals will ask for money to enter the bathroom. You can just say no. I’m tired of these touristy BS
2: during the morning and night at the hotel, there were not enough food / meat. Be prepared to fight and grab more in the beginning

Most reviews are written under coercion - Overall this would probably be a five star experience. But I want to use this review to highlight that ALMOST ALL reviews of this journey are written under uncomfortable coercion from the guide on the last day of the trip. They will walk around to everyone, and either take your phone and write it themselves or watch as you write the review. Take all of them with a grain of salt.
The trip itself was still very nice, you can gather that from the other reviews, but I want to highlight some things that, for the above reason, I don't think they'll mention:
- the hotel we slept in the first night, Hotel Bougafer Tinghir, is sort of a dump, with really poor food.
- The guide didn't seem particularly engaged, and mostly turned around every couple of hours to point out something quickly. He did a bit more talking at the stops but honestly the most I heard him talk was when asking for reviews.
- The whole operation feels a bit like you're on a conveyor belt of people trying to extract money from you. I know it's the same in many Moroccan places, but it's exhausting when you're handed off from the guide to a local guide, who wants a tip, and he then hands you off to some vendor who gives a mini presentation of a painting technique and then also hopes for a purchase.
- The lunches in particular felt scammy. We'd get dropped at fixed restaurants with no real alternatives around and get fairly poor food for 150DH pP - that's about triple what we paid for really nice meals elsewhere.
That said, it was still a great way to see lots of stuff, many of the people one interacts with really are very nice, and parts of the experience - especially the camel ride away from the desert camp in the morning, under the stars - are unforgettable.

What you should know before booking. The good and the bad. - Had I known these things before booking, I would’ve looked for another option, so in case this helps you:
1. The lunch stops and included meals are quite terrible.
2. The hotel is akin to a 90’s dorm - like a 2.5 stars facility. Clean, but not quite what you want to check into.
3. Yes the tour group is 16 max but what they don’t tell you is that 3-4 buses follow one another so each stop is very crowded
4. You will be taken to several places where vendors will try to sell you things. For example, they will say they’re taking you so you can see how Berber families make rugs. What you get in reality is a guy who throws down one rug after another on the floor while telling you that money comes and goes, but rugs will last generations. Not one demonstration.
5. Some iconic stops will be overlooked (where many other tour groups stop) and your time instead will be spent listening to someone yammer on about trying to sell you something
6. AC on the bus doesn’t really work or maybe it’s just mediocre (at best)
7. While on the road there was just a driver, no guide - no information/history given. So while you probably pass the things named in the itinerary, you never know.
8. Camping in the Sahara desert- it’s a big colony of huts set up within 2-3 feet of one another where all tour buses come and hundreds of people stay (the food hall holds over 100 people and there are several waves of scheduled meal times). Not quite the intimate desert experience I envisioned.
9. If you’re an animal lover, skip the camels. It’s heartbreaking to see how these poor animals are treated and how they cry in pain. We opted to skip the sunrise ride and rented ATVs to skip seeing that again.
10. Even though the itinerary and booking page stated that admission to see Ait Ben Haddou kasbah was included, we were told to pay the guide 20 MAD per person plus tip - I assume all for the guide.
11. The tour company is responsive until you book, after that you will never get a response, so ask questions up front. I reached out three times asking for guidance on what to pack. During our tour I learned that several others had done the same to no avail. We had very cold temperatures and no one in the group was prepared.
The good:
1. Our driver Hakim was great, attentive, kind and accommodating. Tour guides during designated tours were informative and the guide to the park/gorges was awesome - funny, entertaining and informative.
2. You will see beautiful country side, sites and villages that are all 100% worth seeing
3. Aside the AC not working, the bus is comfortable and being from the US it was a great experience chatting with fellow travelers as everyone else was from Europe.
4. They do a good job breaking up the trips with stops
5. You will have experiences like getting henna done, pictures with traditional clothes and scarves on head.
6. Seeing the sand dunes at sunset is truly incredible. There are atv tracks all over, but even at that, the colors and shapes in the sand are stunning.
I’ve been on similar tours all over the world, but this vendor/company unfortunately would rank lowest on my list and if I could do it all over again, I’d pick a different tour company. Perhaps all Moroccan tours are this commercialized and transactional, but I’m inclined to believe that it doesn’t get worse than this.
In summary, complete tourist trap.

Mass tourism disguised as a desert adventure - A really unpleasant incident ruined the experience: a guy from our group left an honest review but was forced to delete it (by our and 2 more guides) because it had a low rate. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and destroys any trust in the organization. Without this episode, I might have given 3/5, but I can’t overlook such poor handling.
That said, the experience is decent for the price, but far from authentic. Our guide, Abderrahman, was kind and attentive, but the tour is not for those looking for something genuine and away from mass tourism. The area offers only a few dunes close to populated zones (you can check on Google Maps), so there’s no real desert immersion. The tour was supposed to be in Spanish, but it was mixed, which caused some issues. The hotel on the first night was decent, the tent on the second night was fine, but the food in general is quite basic (exclusively couscous, rice, chicken and vegetables).
