- Medina of Marrakesh - Marrakech is a city located in central Morocco, inland, at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. It is nicknamed the “red city” or the “ocher city” in reference to the red color of a large part of its buildings and houses. The city was founded in 1071 by Youssef ben Tachfine, at the head of the Berber Empire of the Almoravids. In the past, Morocco was known in the East as Marrakech (still relevant in Iran); the name Morocco comes from the deformation of the Portuguese pronunciation of Marrakech: Marrocos. Marrakech has 928,850 inhabitants according to the 2014 census, spread over an area of 230 km2. The population density reaches 350 inhabitants per hectare in the Medina.

Experience of discovering Moroccan crafts - We made the visit with an official guide who led us through this maze of Moroccan craftsmanship and we were able to make purchases from state cooperatives, guarantors of Moroccan quality and know-how.

Go with an open heart and mind. You won't regret - A fascinating world, with the blend of apparent chaos, smells, noises, people. Very interesting this cultural broth.
Shops that sell everything, for the most varied prices, restaurants and street food, snakes and monkeys, rivers together and mixed. I like it.

Excellent experience at Riad Sidi Soussan, Medina in Marrakech - Great! I had an excellent time. The owners showed me all their Moroccan hospitality. The room was beautiful and spacious, with typical tiles. Excellent cleanliness and a copious breakfast for only 30 dirhams.
The terrace, very nice where I met other travelers. Hammam tours and tours of the area are offered. A 10-minute walk from Djma el Fnaa. Very safe neighborhood. It is worth supporting this new initiative of an entrepreneurial family that offers very affordable prices for all types of traveler. All recommended!

underwhelming experience - This was a family trip, and it featured a fairly comprehensive stay in Marrakech (5 days), with a two-day tour around the Atlas mountains, around Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate. As a side note, we had thought of going as far south as Merzouga to see the desert (I have done that in Jordan, Tunisia and Egypt already), but decided not to do it, and we are in hindsight very pleased with that decision. These booming "desert experiences" are the typical tourist trap, pretty much everywhere, and they are designed to suit the average tourist - most people visiting Morocco are sadly falling into that category.
On Marrakech. We stayed in a very central, and surprisingly fairly quiet Riad, very close to the main square - Jamaa el Fna - and therefore walking distance from most attractions. It is fair to say that we had a chance to explore the city in depth, even outside the city walls. My view of Marrakech as a travelling destination is not too positive though. The whole of the city centre feels far too much like a tourist trap, where little or nothing is actually genuine, and most attractions (from the shopping to the actual sites) are designed to attract the average western idiot (the accidental tourist mentioned earlier). Much of what is for sale for instance has little to do with local craftsmanship and trade (there is more in that sense around the Atlas). As an illustration, you go to an antique dealer, and it's all junk from Mali, Burkina Faso, Northern Nigeria. You talk about rugs, and there is no reason not to go to Istanbul instead.
Above and beyond this, the medina is polluted like no other city, the result of an endless stream of scooters and mopeds that run around the narrow alleyways as if there were no tomorrow! The result is unbreathable air, and the sheer impossibility to actually admire that otherwise interesting web of lanes.
Overall, this is an interesting, but underwhelming experience. I would point to other cities in Africa, that in my view represent a much better experience: Mombasa, Stone Town, Cape Town, all rank much higher in my view.

Marrakesh , Medina Square - Medina ok, like all, but the square, left much to be desired. I imagined a square like the photos I always see, but in reality it's a mess, lots of fruit and juice tents and just one side with food.

Walk in the medina - Too much harassment and extremely dirty city , all traders sell the same thing . Hygiene in restaurants is catastrophic

Big disappointment - If the traders are still there we were very disappointed with this walk in the souks. The traffic of motorcycles though forbidden is hellish, dangerous and the smell of exhaust pipes is unbearable. We had not experienced this until a few years ago. Time wasted because we were worried about our safety.

Impassable souks - Souks are becoming impassable. The stinking mopeds, the shopkeepers who install more and more outside which prevents them from passing, so you have to contort yourself to cross all the derbs traders. Tourists complain and sneak in. But what are the local authorities doing? Nothing, as usual.

Do not buy here if you have to go to other places in Morocco as well. Taxi scammers - I do not recommend buying anything if you have to go to other locations in Morocco. Here it costs everything about 1/3 more.
Taxi drivers to reach the medina charge sky-high prices compared to Rabat and refuse to put the meter. Impossible to check. To avoid as much as possible
