If fun and safe way to see the Medina in Marrakesh - We decided to hire our own private tour guide to take us shopping at the Medina in Marrakesh. Youseph met us outside the Medina, and spend five hours with us. We got to see shops that other two guides will not take you to, like the craftsman section where we observed things being made. Joseph had a great sense of humor, was fun & patient with us as we shopped our way through the Medina. With over 3000 shops in the Medina, it is a good idea to have your own guide. We highly recommend them.

Interesting shopping experience - So when we went to Marrakech souk and medina, I have to say I have never seen so many shops/stalls etc in my life, the experience was something of you have never done worth trying, the whole bartering completely baffles me being so use to a structured system of the price being presented and that’s what you pay has always been the normality of our lives, Needles to say it was rather fun trying to see what tolerances you could go with and without of course offending those who sell, But not only does it have these remarkable stalls/shops etc, with lovely crafted taglines/bowls/cups etc, but the market place in the square outside turns into a some what performance arena, snake charmers, monkey handlers, musicians. Rather entertaining more so from a distance so then you don’t feel too bad when you want to move on and not feel forced to pay some money, The restaurant and cafes are a bit pricey around here so watch where you go, in the end we found some places would sell cans of coke for 25 dirham but other places would sell you a bottle 1.5L for 15 dirham, which is more than enough for two of you especially if the Cokes lovely and cold . All in all it was a lovely experience and well worth it if your in the area

Night time is the best - The Medina in the day time is hot and really for me just a market but at night it is vibrant, colourful and hectic but true Marrakech. Haggling for a bargain is a national sport in Morocco they love it and so did I.

Still crazy as ever! - The Medina if Marrakech is a place where you are consyantly approched by vendors to buy something. They will say absolutely anything to get you into their shops, " cheap as chips", " hey sister", "love your bag, shoes, bracelet, whatever you have on", "cheap as asda, cheap as primark" "almost free"..you have to tell them what you want to pay..NEVER give them what they ask for as it it usually 3 times more than what you should expect to pay. If you are a bargain hunter, you can get good deals..but if not, you will just get bumped! They are extremely friendly and charming but can get nasty when you talk them done..not all, but some vendors can be abit rude. Just laugh and move onto the next. This place is never ending, you always have choices and will ckme across so many new parts of the medina no matter how many times you go. Have fun, as it is alot of fun..and remember, Bargain hunt..thats the joy of Marrakech! 🤩

Yes, but.... - Mixed, on the one hand, you have a lot of open shops and a desire to discover the scents and local life...these places are magnificent....but personally the number of motorcycles and other motorized vehicles that pass within a few centimeters of you and the pollution that it gives off has taken away part of the charm of the place.....

Bustling market like maze - Got a taxi to medina square and on getting dropped off at the square we immediately got harassed from a local trying to take us into the market we said no no no but still wasn't listening so we walked off in the other direction. After going into the market on our own no guide it was like a maze very busy with loads of stalls but all the stalls mainly selling the same things . we bought some magnets some shoes and a leather holdall oh and some spices always barter the price and if you say no and start to walk away you will probably get your goods for a good price . Downside - Getting hassled ,smelly,so big we actually got lost and took what seemed like forever to get out ,motorbikes zooming through the market while trying to shop. Couldn't find any toilets but was a few cafe bars inside so maybe if we had food could of used them toilets otherwise didn't see any.

Don’t let go of the item you buy! It’ll be switched right before your eyes! - Be careful that you walk away with what you paid for. We got ‘stung’ on two occasions in the same day at totally different shops/stalls so this is clearly a tactic that they have perfected. 1. Bought a kaftan for myself, tried on in the shop and loved it, we did the whole haggle thing and settled for a price. Slippery sales man handed kaftan to chap behind till to put in bag when I handed over the money, only for a different kaftan(same color) to be put in bag. Oh and they throw in a free wooden honey drizzler just to dazzle you further. Got back to hotel and the kaftan I now own has no stitching under the one of the armpits, the edges are frayed and the quality is really poor. Try taking it back to complain? No chance as there is no return policy in Morocco. Cash only remember! 2. Thought we’d buy a nice small lantern to go on our mantle, found the one we wanted, got the price we wanted. The salesman was super quick, he turned around for no more than a second to wrap in paper and put in a bag. We left and back at hotel discovered it had been switched for one of very poor quality and damaged. Damn! These sellers are super sneaky and lightning fast. My advice is choose what you want buy , don’t let go of it, pay and leave. You don’t need the rubbish plastic bag they are going to put it in.

Absolute disaster! - I have no memories of this trip other than the disaster of trying to find out why we were not picked up. No communication prior to the trip even though I attempted to make contact to check everything was ok. The morning if the trip we waited outside the hotel 10 minutes early. Just after 9.30 I sent another message. I then found a telephone number so sent a Messsge in WhatsApp. This was supposed to be the tour operator. They messaged back after about 10 minutes to tell us to contact another telephone number. By now I was not feeling this was a safe option. I messaged Viator with my concerns. They said they could see my attempts to make contact and advised me to wait a bit longer. I agreed to wait until 10am. No one arrived. No reply to the message. An absolute disaster. Then it took three and a half days of chasing Viator for my money back. Just a dreadful experience and one I won’t be repeating!

2 wheels are allowed on pedestrian streets! Be careful, very dangerous. - Incivility due to the incessant circulation of 2 wheels dangerous for pedestrians, - therefore very polluted - no relaxation for shopping - price per tourist's head x 3, you have to negotiate for everything! It ends up being tiring.
