Marrakech-Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou-Dades Valley
Boumalne Dades - Following breakfast, the journey from Marrakech begins, traversing the breathtaking Atlas Mountains and the Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters. This route offers a stunning landscape in the heart of the Atlas mountain range, leading to Ouarzazate, a location where many renowned films such as “Alexander the Great,” “The Mummy,” “The Jewel of the Nile,” and “Kingdom of Heaven” have been filmed. The scenery is truly remarkable. A stop is made at the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, one of the most spectacular fortresses in Southern Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage site. After lunch, the journey continues to the Valley of Roses, famous for its annual festival during the May harvest.
Dades Valley - Todra Gorge - Merzouga Desert
Merzouga Desert - After breakfast, the day begins with a drive towards the Todra Gorges, a popular destination for rock climbers. The journey continues along ancient Bedouin trading routes parallel to the Anti-Atlas, passing a series of fortified villages with pre-Saharan architecture. The route to Erfoud is one of the most delightful of all the Southern routes. The town, built by the French as a central administrative town, is known for its rich black fossil marble. The journey proceeds to the spectacular Merzouga dunes, where the sand dunes mark the beginning of the vast Sahara Desert. Vehicles are left behind for a camel ride into the desert to a Berber camp. After dinner, the evening is spent around the fire, enjoying the desert night, perhaps with traditional Berber drums.
Merzouga Desert - Draa Valley - Ouarzazate
Ouarzazate - After witnessing a picturesque sunrise and having breakfast at the camp, the desert is left behind with a camel ride back to Merzouga. The drive continues towards Ouarzazate via the Anti-Atlas and Tizi-n-Tinifift Pass, reaching Agdez and the Draa Valley, with its palm tree forest extending over 200 km. This area is the cradle of the Saadian dynasty that ruled Morocco during the fifteenth century.
Ouarzazate - Marrakech
