Tizi n Tichka - Known in English as “The Pass of Tichka,” this is the highest mountain pass in Morocco, located in the High Atlas Mountain range at an altitude of 2260 meters (7414 feet). It offers breathtaking views of the northern landscape and its Berber villages. A stop here is planned to capture panoramic photos.
Telouet - The Berber village of Telouet was historically a key passage for merchant caravans connecting the desert with major cities beyond the Atlas Mountains. The nearby salt mines contributed to the wealth of the Pashas residing in Telouet. The current kasbah was initiated in 1860 by Mohammed Ibiyet, leader of the Glaoui clan, and took five years to build with the help of 300 craftsmen from across Morocco, including Fes. The kasbah was expanded as the family’s influence grew.
Ait Ben Haddou - Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, also known as the Berber Citadel/Fortress, is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987, maintaining its original state. A stop for lunch and a guided tour of the kasbah is planned. This location has been featured in numerous American films, including The Gladiator, Asterix Obelix, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, The Jewel of the Nile, and The Last Temptation of Christ.
Vallee Des Roses - The journey continues through the beautiful city known for its roses and Berber daggers. An optional stop is available for those interested in purchasing rosewater or other rose-based cosmetics.
Boumalne Dades - The first overnight stop is here before heading to the Sahara Desert the next day. Situated at the edge of a desert plateau, Boumalne Dades is at the outlet of the upper Dadès Valley, over 1500 meters high. It originated from ancient transhumance routes controlled by various tribes, with most residents being Berber.
Dades Valley - Boumalne – Tinghir – Todra Gorges – Rissani – Merzouga
Boumalne Dades - After breakfast at the Riad/Hotel, the journey continues through the picturesque city of Boumalne Dades, with a scheduled stop for panoramic photos and to admire the valley.
Tinghir - Heading towards Merzouga, the route passes through Tinghir, known as the city of a thousand kasbahs, leading to the famous Todra Gorges.
Gargantas del Todra - The stunning Todra Gorges, with an altitude of about 300 meters (984 feet), are a must-see. A walk through the gorges offers opportunities for photography and possibly witnessing mountaineers in action. An optional lunch is available before continuing past Alnif and Rissani.
Merzouga Desert - The journey culminates at the magnificent sandy dunes of Merzouga Erg Chebbi Sahara Desert, featuring a camel ride, dinner, music, and an overnight stay under the stars.
Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Agdz – Ouarzazate
Rissani - Just 30 minutes from Merzouga, Rissani was once a major caravan center. An optional stop includes visiting the Berber Market or a mineral fossils exhibition and workshop, where the fossil-making process is demonstrated. Fresh camel’s milk is also available for tasting.
Agdz - Located 65 kilometers south of Ouarzazate, Agdz, meaning “resting place” in Berber, was a key point on the caravan route between Marrakech and Timbuktu, facilitating trade across the Sahara. It is renowned for its vast palm oasis.
Ouarzazate - Known as the “door of the desert,” Ouarzazate has been the filming location for many famous movies due to its unique geography and film studios. The next day includes a visit to the Taourirt Kasbah, one of the country’s most beautiful.
Ouarzazate - Telouat - Tizi N’tichka - Marrakech
