Marrakech - Embark on a Marrakech tour with a local guide, visiting:
Koutoubia Mosque
Ben Youssef Madrasa
Bahia Palace
Jemaa El-Fna Square and Souks
Ait Ben Haddou - Journey through the High Atlas Mountains, enjoying the stunning landscapes of the Tizi Tichka pass, which reaches an altitude of 2,260 meters above sea level. The mountain drive takes approximately 3-4 hours, offering opportunities to savor local cuisine along the way and visit the Kasbah Telouat, once the seat of the El Glaoui family’s power, also known as the Palace of Glaoui.
Continue driving through Berber villages, and in the afternoon, explore the Ksar of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a popular Hollywood filming location. Later, travel southeast to Skoura Oasis, where guests will spend the night amidst the palm groves in one of the peaceful lodges, including dinner and breakfast.
Skoura To Sahara Desert
Gargantas del Todra - Head towards the Todra Gorge, with a drive of about 1 hour and 30 minutes from the departure point. Arrive in the Todra Valley, located on the eastern side of the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco, where visitors can walk through the Todra Gorge, one of the world’s most spectacular canyons and a top destination for hikers and rock climbers. Enjoy lunch in the area.
Erg Chebbi - Later, visit the traditional irrigation system Khotarat, which is over 100 years old. Continue driving to the Erg Chebbi dunes, where camels await to take guests on a 1-hour trek through the orange sand dunes to reach the luxury campsite. Enjoy the sunset, sandboarding, and dinner before experiencing the Berber ambiance around the fire and stargazing. (Alternatively, request the driver to take you to the campsite with a 4×4 vehicle).
Sahara Desert To Fes
Fes el-Bali - Rise early to witness the desert sunrise, have breakfast, then transfer out of the dunes by camel-back to rejoin the vehicle for the journey to Fes (or if traveling by 4×4, guests can be collected at the camp). The route follows the Ziz River north, passing through the Tafilalt region, which it irrigates, a region of lush date palms bordering the Sahara.
This historically significant region once marked the crossroads of the West African caravan routes and is the origin of the Alaouite dynasty’s establishment in the 17th century, the dynasty that still rules Morocco today. Pass through the stunning Ziz River gorge before crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains (at approximately 1,900 meters). North of the mountains, experience part of Morocco’s vast cedar forests (near Azrou) before arriving in Fes in the late afternoon.
Visiting Fes then go for Chefchaouen
Fes el-Bali - After breakfast at the Riad, a local guide will lead an exploration of the oldest Medina in Morocco, dating back to the eighth century. Explore the narrow, winding cobbled streets of the Medina, where donkeys are the primary mode of transportation. The tour includes historical sites of the Medina, such as the University of Al Karaouine, the oldest university in the world, the Moulay Idriss mausoleum, the Nejjarine fountains, the famous tanneries, as well as the King’s Palace, the Jewish quarter, and the ceramics cooperative to see traditional Moroccan crafts. The tour concludes around 2-4 pm, followed by departure for Chefchaouen.
Chefchaouen Free Day
Chefchaouen - Today, leisurely explore Chefchaouen, a small city in the Rif Mountains of Northern Morocco known for its climate and blue houses. Chefchaouen is a fascinating, unique city founded in 1471 by Moorish and Jewish people. The town has an Andalusian character similar to the larger city of Tetouan near the coast. The houses are typically whitewashed in the tradition of those found throughout Andalusia in southern Spain, with related architectural styles. This makes it a wonderful pedestrian Medina with beautiful homes tightly clustered along narrow, winding lanes.
