A joyful, full-day escape from Marrakech with a friendly group, winding through scenic mountains to reach the stunning O - I didn’t expect to be drenched in mist and love every second of it. The cool droplets ran down my cheeks, while the sun poured gentle warmth onto my shoulders—an odd, beautiful mix, as if nature itself was teasing me. At dawn, Hassan picked me up from my riad in Marrakech. His smile seemed to make the morning light even brighter. During the three-hour journey, he played old Andalusian songs and stopped halfway to share sweet dates with us. We passed dusty roads, goats clinging to the hillsides, tiny villages with brightly painted doors, and children running to wave at us. Every frame felt like a living postcard of rural Morocco. Our guide for the descent to Ouzoud Waterfalls was Karima—a cheerful, confident local woman. The stone steps were slippery in places, but she warned us at every turn. The shaded path led us to spots where monkeys sat fearlessly on branches, watching us. At one point, a monkey reached for my backpack—I backed away laughing, and Karima clapped her hands to shoo it off. The air carried a mix of earthy scents and fresh herbs, so different from the hazy smell of the city. At the bottom, we boarded a boat right up to the roaring base of the waterfall. Mist soaked my hair, and the sound was so loud our voices got lost in laughter. A rainbow shimmered just ahead—almost close enough to touch. It felt like nature had unfolded all her colors just for us. Lunch was served at a wooden table by the river—steaming tagine, tomato salad, warm bread, olives, and fresh mint tea. Nearby, the sound of a small cascade, the cool shade, and the gentle notes of a local musician’s lute blended into a rare kind of peace. After the meal, I sat quietly by the water and realized I couldn’t remember the last time I’d picked up my phone. In that moment, I knew—this trip wasn’t just about the sights; it had given me a kind of stillness. On the way back, shadows stretched across the mountains, and Hassan said, “Nature only gives you as much as you are able to feel.” I turned back—already the waterfall was dissolving into the gray mist of the distance. From the red cliffs to the thundering falls, in just one day, this was the soul of Morocco.
