Journey from Marrakech to the Desert through the Mountains

High Atlas Mountains - Depart from the Marrakech meeting point and journey through the High Atlas Mountains on the way to the desert. Travel along Morocco’s highest road at 2,260 meters, passing through the High Atlas range where Berber villages are perched on mountain ledges. Enjoy views of snow-capped peaks and lush valleys abundant with fruit and nut trees. There will be numerous stops for photos, refreshments, and restroom breaks.

Ait Ben Haddou - Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Ait Ben Haddou is a beautifully preserved fortress situated by the river on the ancient caravan route. Climb to the top for sweeping views of the valley and a glimpse into the tribal life of the village’s long-standing residents.

Atlas Film Studio - Known as the “Hollywood” of Africa, this is the home of Atlas Film Studios. Iconic films such as Gladiator, Cleopatra, and Game of Thrones were filmed here. Visit the Taourirt Kasbah, built by the family that controlled access to the Atlas Mountains in this area, and later used by the French Legion during the French occupation from 1912-1956.

Vallee Des Roses - Pass through the stunning valley of roses where Damascus roses are grown and transformed into beauty products, one of Morocco’s key exports. The harvest and the Festival of Roses each May make this a delightful time to visit. Enjoy a quick coffee stop and a visit to the distillery.

Boumalne Dades - The breathtaking gorges carved into the mountain make this an excellent spot for outdoor activities like climbing, trekking, and camping. Spend the night in a hotel before continuing to the desert. Consider spending the evening walking through the gorge, stargazing under the expansive sky.

Sahara Desert Camp

Todgha Gorge - Discover one of Morocco’s most beautiful date palm oases in this valley, arriving at Todra Gorge for a pleasant walk along the river between towering rock walls. You might see climbers in action.

Erfoud - On the way, visit ancient irrigation systems and water wells, and enjoy some tea before reaching Morocco’s fossil and dates capital. Learn about how the Sahara was once a sea and the fascinating fossils that were found. Continue to a camel preserve where you can milk a camel, taste camel’s milk, and pet baby camels.

Merzouga Desert - The highlight of the desert adventure! Meet your camels and guide for a sunset trek into the dunes for an overnight “glamping” experience under the stars. Luxury and standard lodging options are available, some with private baths, toilets, and hot showers.
