Fantastic day trip from Marseille! - Had a great visit in Avignon, visiting the Palace and the bridge. Would have liked more time to experience the village. From Avignon we went to Chateuneuf du pape for wine tasting and were able to visit 4 different wineries for a varied experience. The wine was fantastic! Our tour guide was knowledgeable and checked in frequently to make sure the itinerary was meeting our expectations and we were comfortable. Very comfortable van, great itinerary, and overall great day!

Excellent, personalized experience! - Joe gave us such a great day! He is so talented at personalizing experiences and so knowledgeable about the places we toured. We started in Avignon at the Palace of the Popes. When you enter they hand you a tablet that gives you the information written on French-only signs translated to your native language. Also on this tablet is a 3D representation of the room you are in. If you scroll around the 3D, some of the rooms have dots you can hit for extra information. We did not do the garden tour so we cannot comment on that. Currently they have the castle tour in two sections. The second section is more visually stunning so if you are very short on time maybe start there. There are some signs that the tablet does not translate but all of the ones I noticed also had that text in English and at least one other language.
I cannot eat gluten, so Joe found a crepe station for us to eat at that is gluten free! Talk about personalized service!!!
We then set off on the winery part of our tour. Joe was able to get us in to four places, including the Family Perrin. At Château Fortia we had a wonderful tour from Paul, who took us through their wine making area and taught us their processes. In between two of the wineries we took a short stop at the Pope’s summer castle; the scenery was so incredibly beautiful my eyes could not get enough of it.
In short, we had a wonderful day with Joe and highly recommend him as a guide for Provence.

Excellent day! - Djilani was amazing. Had a fantastic time exploring Avignon and the wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Even though we had a rainy day we loved the palace of the pope history. We stopped and had local crepes before heading to the wineries for tastings that he arranged for us. We even stopped at a local boulangerie before heading back to the cruise ship. Highly recommend him as a safe and knowledgeable driver. Five stars!

Amazing Chateauneuf-du-Pape Day! - Simply amazing day after being picked up at port and headed straight to Chateauneuf-du-Pape wineries. Paul was not only extremely informative but very funny as well. Much of the day was spent wine tasting and touring some of Paul's recommended beautiful wineries, a quick stop in Avignon for more history and lunch with just enough time to get back into Marseille and take time to view Basilique Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde and the 360 degree picturesque views that took your breath away!
Domitia Tours and specifically Paul made this an unforgettable experience!

Avoid - I've booked tours with Viator all over the world and have had wonderful experiences except for this one. This was truly a bad experience.
Upon docking in Marseille, we exited the ship and were directed to the tour pick-up point. We were outside ten minutes earlier than our designated pick-up time. At pick-up time, I received a mobile phone call from our tour guide asking where we were and that I was late. I explained to the tour guide that we were outside at the tour/excursion pick-up location directly off the ship. He then told me that he had to park in a parking lot away from our pickup point. I found this a little odd as every other tour and excursion bus, private car tour, etc., were waiting at the location pick-up point directly by the ship.
We followed our tour guide to our vehicle for the 8-hour tour we had booked. Instead of a private van (which was what we booked and what was promised on the website), we were escorted to a Duster. In our group, we had 4 adult men. Five total adult men, including the tour guide, in a small car. I am 6'3" and sat up front. I had to sit with my legs twisted sideways and my knees touching the dashboard. The three other men were squished in the back seat with little room. It was a 1.5-hour drive from Marseille to Avignon.
Once we got to Avignon, our "tour guide" walked us up to the Palace where he told us to buy tickets to get into the Palace. Once done, we should walk to the famous bridge and then the clock tower. Text him when we were done, and he would pick us up. There was no tour; he just told us what to go see and then went back to his car. After the Palace tour, we were walking towards the famous bridge we were told to see and saw our tour guide napping in the front seat of the car. We then walked to the bridge and the clock tower as recommended by our tour guide. We then texted our tour guide that we were ready to be picked up and taken to the wineries for wine tastings that were part of the tour itinerary.
Once we got on the car for the winery part of our tour, I was told to sit in the back of the car behind the tour guide (who was driving as well) because I was too tall for the front seat. I had to sit with my feet slid under the driver's seat to fit. My friend sitting in the back middle seat had to sit with his shoulders scrunched and his hands in his lap the entire ride to fit.
After we pulled away, the tour guide asked us "what we wanted to do next?" We told him we wanted to go to the wineries that were part of the tour itinerary. He then said OK, and that he called ahead for a tasting and there would be wine, meats, and cheeses. We drove 40 minutes to the wine region and to the one and only winery we visited the whole tour. Keep in mind we booked the tour because the description said, "Wineries and tastings (plural)." Once we arrived, we walked in to be told by the lady working in the wine tasting room that they did not know we were coming and that a wine tasting was not possible for another hour. The tour guide looked at us again and asked us what we wanted to do. We said this all should have been planned and set up as we booked a tour. We told him we weren't from there and had no idea what to do or where to go. So, he then said he'd take us to the village, and we could have a glass of wine at a cafe.
We were then hauled into the village where we were told to go have a glass of wine somewhere and that he'd come back to pick us up in 20 minutes so that he could take us back to the winery to have a tasting. We sat at a random cafe and had a glass of wine. Paid our bill so we would be ready for pick-up and taken back to the winery. I texted the tour guide that we were ready. No response to text or calls. We started to walk down different streets to see if he was asleep in the car. Still called and texting with no response. We didn't see his car, so we started looking at having to take an Uber back to the ship because we thought he left us. One hour later, he pulls around, and we asked where he was and why didn't he answer our calls and texts. He said he was out of mobile phone range. At this point, we are very upset. He then asks again what we wanted to do, and we told him we wanted to go back to the winery for a tasting. He then says he didn't think we had time for that!! The lady in the winery told us when we were there the first time, she could fit us in in one hour. So, with the drive to the cafe, the 20-minute glass of wine, and the drive back to the winery would have been one hour later. However, since the tour guide ghosted us for 1 hour, we were very late. We were very upset at this point and asked him to take us to the winery. We had traveled all the way to this famous wine region to have a couple of wonderful wine tastings.
Once we arrived back at the winery, we were able to have a quick 20-minute wine tasting before the lady had to give a wine lecture and tasting to a big tour group. We then told the tour guide to take us back to the ship since we didn't have any more time to get to another winery and do a tasting. Back at the ship, we passed a dock worker who told the tour guide to drop us off at the pick-up and drop-off point for our ship. The spot we were waiting at the beginning waiting for our tour guide. He refused and went back to the parking lot away from our ship where he walked us to in the morning.
This was by far the worst tour we have ever experienced. We travel around the world and take a lot of tours, especially with Viator. Everything about our tour and experience was bad. Small car that we couldn't fit in for a long drive. Tour guide didn't give us a “personal” tour. Told us to go to the famous sights and he would meet us after. Our pre-planned wine tastings were a huge failure. Nothing planned and only went to one winery. And lastly, him disappearing for 1 hour causing us to have a short wine tasting and skipping the second winery altogether. I am very disappointed with this tour and the outcome. The tour company’s name is Domitia Tours.
