Additional Information

“The best way to know a city is to walk it.” Simone de Beauvoir, renowned French writer, was right.
And it is especially true for Marseille.
Marseille is unique, a city with 100 personnalities, an oxymoron where calm and noise live together in a chaotic harmony.
The oldest city in France, 2600 years old, still has a young beating heart, and the best…

We meet right in front of the Cathedral La Major's entry gate. There is big lamppost facing straight at the entry gate. I will be there, wearing a white cap.

We loved Charles - Our guide Charles was fabulous. Lots of both energy and knowledge. After four hours of experiences, he got us to an amazing place for lunch. One thing to know—lots of walking up and down hills and steps.

This is a must do for... - This is a must do for anyone visiting Marseille! What a wonderful experience I had walking and climbing the streets in and around town and the port. So much history to take in. The church was incredible. The art work and stories of local artists and their wall art was fantastic. Loved it all. Charles thank you! You went above and beyond, and I truly enjoyed our adventure together. If I ever make it back to Marseille I will definitely come see you again!

Fantastic way to see the city - My wife and I were lucky enough to get a private tour with Charles on a beautiful sunny day. Charles was very knowledgeable, friendly and personable which made the tour go very smoothly. Since the other couple did not show up we had Charles all to ourselves which allowed us to make the tour more personal. Seeing the sites of the city through the eyes of a local was amazing because we got to see some areas that we would not have normally. Charles truly knows his history and we learned a lot about the city from him. Charles also sent us a list of restaurants and places to go in Marseille after the tour, very thoughtful. We never did get a pistachio madeleine as promised though, next time Charles!

Best decision and tour ever! - I am so glad I booked this trip! I am a solo (woman) traveller, and this tour was amazing (I felt very safe). We got to explore all the amazing touristic places to visit in Marseille, while also being guided through non-touristic areas to get a real feel for the city. The photos don't do the city enough justice. Additionally, I don't think I would have been able to experience all the spots we visited if it wasn't for Charles and his tour! The walk itself was not too difficult - we would take breaks for everyone in the group and the history of the city was not too much (for once I was not bored of listening to history!). I cannot express this enough - this tour is amazing and you are supporting a new and local business :)

Excellent Marseille tour - completely as advertised - Highly Recommended! - I had such a wonderful experience with this tour. Charles is an excellent tour guide. He was incredibly patient with our group as we embarked on the journey, covering all sites listed on the tour agenda. Since our group was mixed French and English speakers, he repeated his talks in both French and English. Make no mistake, this is a heavy walking tour, but was totally worth the exercise. I logged 30,000 steps! Remember to bring water! Again, Charles is such a friendly and knowledgable host, and his stories brought the city to life. Highly recommended.

Enjoyable walking tour with Charles! - We had a wonderful half day with Charles. He was very informative, a great storyteller and such a pleasure to spend the day with. The sights were spectacular and he gave great recommendations. The walk is not strenuous, but it is not for anyone out of shape or not familiar with long walks. Our tour was 8 miles long. Up and down stairs and alleyways. So glad we did this tour.

An interesting and somewhat unusual walking tour - Charles was a really informative and enthusiastic guide. We learned a lot and really enjoyed seeing some places that were off the beaten path (literally, in some cases). Only two caveats: Bring some water with you. We were surprised when there was nowhere on the first (longish) leg of the walk to buy water (or use bathrooms). We should have been told to bring water, or the walk should start somewhere where we can buy a water, or the guide should bring a water for each person. Also, the walk down the back of the hill from the big church was more like a hike, down a gravel path that was steep, somewhat in disrepair, full of switchbacks, with no guardrails or anything to grab on to if you should lose your balance. As a senior citizen who isn't as steady on me feet as I used to be (foot surgeries in the past), but still absolutely fine in most circumstances, I saw my life flash before my eyes for a couple of seconds a couple of times. There should be forewarning of this, and there should be an opt out option (take a cab to the bottom of the hill to meet up with the group).
