Shark Dive with a 10 year old - Took my son on a shark dive as a 10th Birthday present. It is quite expensive, but if you're able to plan ahead you can use a 25% off discount code to buy a gift voucher for the shark dive, then used that to book the actual experience. We found it was a great experience to share together. It’s a gentle introduction to diving, with a nice little walk around a tank. A lot of the fish scatter as you move through the tank, but there were plenty of tropical fish, and sharks swimming right up to your face. The zebra shark in particular was very friendly and frequently swimming right up to us. Once through a briefing and some paperwork you suit up in a private changing area with shower (you really need to stretch the wetsuit to get it on) and then complete a few training exercises before you can go down in the main pool. Our group had 5 people with two instructors. I found the transition from breathing above water to below a little tricky at first. I think I tend to breathe through my nose more, so descending below the surface took a few attempts before I could calmly breathe under the water. Don’t worry if you panic the first few times, just pause and try again, you’ll get there. The instructors don’t put you under any pressure, go at your pace. I found that practicing by myself whilst the instructor worked with someone else was the best for me. Once you can calmly breathe under water the instructor will run through a couple of training exercises, these were pretty straight forward. My 10 year old had no trouble getting through the training, just took a little while to adapt to equalising his ears as you descend the steps to the main tank, again the instructors were patient with him and got him down at the second attempt. Once at the bottom you walk the tank as a group with one instructor at the front, one at the rear. You stop a few times for photos/videos, which also gives you a chance to have a good look around otherwise you’d walk the course in a couple of minutes.

Shooting was great fun - We had great fun at shooting. First time for both of us. Instructions were clear and safety was stressed but we also had fun. Will definitely return to do other activities with the children

Amazing... - Amazing Family Day. 100% recommended. I'm not one to take the time to write a review but we had such an amazing time, I just had to. My son is neuro diverse. He suffered a TBI in 2020, so he doesn't like crowded or busy environments, his memory recall can be slow at times and he can really struggle with too much over stimulation ( such as flashing lights, lots of noise etc) I can say this experience catered to his needs fantastically. It wasn't a busy enviroment, like I thought it maybe. Perfect lighting and just the right number of people to each instructor. All instructors were super friendly and explained everything in an easy and understandable way. My son remembered all instructions given - which can be a challenge for him. We would like to say a big thank you to Leon at the Ifly experience and Ryan from the snorkeling. Ryan actually helped us earlier in the day, when I was a little lost with the parking situation - so thank you for that. Leon explained everything is a child friendly way and made my son feel so at ease. I booked four activities for my sons birthday. He did the Ifly, zip wire, snorkeling with sharks and climbing wall. He also completed the obstacle course numerous times ( which he loved) His exact words were, " this is my best birthday ever!" He loved it. As a parent who's child has many struggles, to hear this and see him relish at new experiences, whilst being so relaxed was more than we could ask for. Such a well thought out experience. With great staff, well priced food and a great little shop! We will definitely be back and recommend to others in the TBI community.

Shark Dive - Amazing experience, as a complete beginner I was a little worried about equalising my ears and using the equipment. Mike and Ollie were super friendly and helpful at all stages - complete buzz at the end of the experience.

HiFly great. Receptionist Poor - My husband brought me to Bear Grylls Birmingham yesterday for my birthday. We were so excited but you receptionist made it the most dull experience. We got there and she was so miserable, could hardly hear what she was saying and she looked like she wasn't interested at all. The hifly experience itself was amazing and Russell was amazing. We then went back down to look at the photos and Ade the same receptionist served us. Again she was so miserable, flicked through the photos so quick that we didn't even get a chance to look at them properly but she spoke to us like we were so stupid we felt uncomfortable and pressured it to buying the whole lot and getting them emailed to us so we could then look at them properly. She literally put us off the whole experience

Disappointing - I was a little apprehensive when booking due to the amount of poor reviews on trip advisor, however we wanted to give this place a go and come to our own decision. On arrival, we were greeted at reception by a very smiley, enthusiastic young lady who was very welcoming! This was a good start, as I’d seen some reviews saying this part was awful- that wasn’t our experience. However, having arrived over half an hour early (as per website recommendations) we were told we only needed to arrive at our activities 5 minutes before. Due to this we decided to go and get ourselves something to eat before our first activity (climbing). The service was frankly poor. It wasn’t particularly busy and was still forecast to be a 25 minute wait for a hotdog! Obviously this was out of the question so we chose ready made toasties/wrap from the fridge and asked if they’d be quicker. Yes was the answer we got so we went ahead and ordered. Twenty minutes later we were still sat waiting for said toasty!…I went to the till to ask how much longer it would be..another 10 minutes!! How long does it take to grill a ready made toasty!? Finally got our food about 8 mins later- can’t speak for my son’s wrap but the toasty was rubbish! Floppy and chewy….£32 later 😝 Our first activity started at 1pm…I was spectating so waited what felt like ages for them to actually get a go on the climbing wall! They didn’t get long on the beginners wall before they were shipped round the more advanced walls which were pretty much impossible if you have no climbing experience. This was disappointing for my daughter who then had to stand watching for the last 20 minutes. Our next activity was archery. We really enjoyed it however, We were taken into our activity late and given about 20minutes! This is not good enough when you are paying £100 for a family to play for half an hour. Our next activity was axe throwing, again we were taken in late (5mins) even though she could see we were sat waiting to go. We were then told our session was finished 3 minutes early. This doesn’t seem much but when you are spending £270 on a day out it’s pretty disappointing to say the least!! Our overall experience was poor and we would not recommend it to anyone.

Poor value for money - We arrived early to try the obstacle course as this was included in the cost of the tickets and was a big reason we chose this experience. It was closed, the customer service was poor at reception. We did the axe throwing which was good, however it was £50 for about 25mins. Wouldn't recommend.

Waste of money - moody lady hosting us - We went for the shooting experience. Not worth the money at all. Spend more time talking at the start than doing the actual experience and got to shoot about 20 bullets then finishes. Booked this for my partner and thought this would be a fun experience to do with him but the lady hosting the experience made it boring and miserable. Seemed so fed up and told me ‘there’s always one’ and rolled her eyes when my gun jammed… it’s my first time shooting a gun lol. Don’t recommend at all - a real shame as we were really looking forward to it.
