Matera is a city not only erected on these fascinating subterranean homes, but also over a breathtaking ravine, offering panoramic views of the scenery. The city, although harboring some dilapidated structures, buzzes with energy and culture, with many buildings being transformed into striking cave hotels and eateries.
The tour of Matera would involve walking and making stops at the Museo Casa Grotta, a refurbished cave adorned with historical relics, offering visitors a glimpse into the lifestyle before the inhabitants were moved out of the Sassi in the 1950s.
