The buried history of Matera - Largest hypogeum in Matera, rich in historical information. Antonella the guide made us discover Matera in all historical periods, fascinating us with her knowledge and preparation. Highly recommended for anyone who is curious to discover this area so rich in history Thanks again

The roots of the city - After visiting the city, already stupendous in itself, especially in the eyes of those who do not only see the surface but love the history of man and identify with the period that is offered through the pores of the material up to the essence of the soul of the place , a visit to this hypogeum is absolutely inevitable. The roots of the city wedge themselves into the biological fabric and dig it like water passes through tuff. Unmissable.

Worth visiting to fully understand Matera - Antonella a well of knowledge and sympathy. The place of absolute interest to truly understand Matera's customs and society over the centuries. Both the site and the guide are recommended (even better with Antonella).

Fascinating place to learn more about Matera - Really informative site that gives you a better idea of life in the caves of Matera. While it is possible to see homes like the Casa Grotta di vico Solitario that are furnished and show you what a cave dwelling looked like in the past, the Hypogeum/Ipogeo is more like an underground town. It shows you how structures were interconnected and a few different kinds of underground structures like a mill and a warehouse. You have to use your imagination a bit more as it is unfurnished, but it is fascinating to see. The audio guide is accessible using a QR code and is provides helpful explanations. I see somebody else said they were in and out in 15 minutes but I was there 1/2 an hour and wish I had allowed myself more time (as I had to catch a bus) - I guess it depends on your level of interest and how much time you spend reading/listening to the information available, I found it a very interesting place to explore. The staff member was very friendly and helpful.

Incredible experience in underground Matera! - We visited this recently opened attraction during our stay in wonderful Matera. The result of hard excavation work, the place is a maze of halls and rooms that were inhabited by families sharing resources such as water reservoir and oven. Make sure to follow the correct sequence of visit and read the panels that provide invaluable insights. Definitely recommended!

Impressive but disturbed by the art exhibition. - Impressive! The only shame is the art exhibition which should be collected in a single room...so, even if the artist is undoubtedly worthy, it disturbs the visit a lot, too bad!

Nice site but communication could be improved - Beautiful and evocative site. However, I advise managers to display the rates for the visit and any reductions at the entrance or somewhere so that the visitor can make an informed decision. Not even the costs are displayed at the purchase desk and I only found out about the reduction for a certain category by asking. Also absolutely to improve the audio and video of the videos. It wouldn't be bad to have a person lead the groups as happens in diving.

Visit not necessary - Poor lighting. Brief audio guide explanation. Expensive for what it was to see. There are better things to see in my opinion.

rather visit something else, for example casa rupestre or cistern with water in it, on piazza vitt emanuele. - There are better things to visit. The cave is large and deeply carved, with many rooms, with enough information boards, but I lacked concrete objects to properly imagine it. They are empty spaces. I then visited a casa rupestre, and a chiesa rupestre. that was much more interesting. the entrance is €3. we booked online the day before via TripAdvisor: Not necessary! that turned out with an audio guide and cost €8. the audio guide is not helpful. I don't understand this price difference.
