“Amazing hike, beautiful views - Claudio is an amazing guide, so friendly, thoughtful, and knowledgeable. The hike is amazing and there are so many cool things to see along the way - the Tibetan bridge, cave churches, local plants, the river, beautiful views of the Sassi, and more. Make sure to bring hiking shoes and water, this trip is a bit strenuous!” - Reviewed on 2024-09-21

This shared tour takes you through the heart of Matera, guiding you along trail 406 with its stunning landscapes and awe-inspiring views.
The highlight of this excursion is the Belvedere Murgia Timone, where you can witness a remarkable panoramic view as the Sassi city illuminates at sunset. The experience is both breathtaking and evocative, allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty of the surrounding landscape. As you cross the Tibetan Bridge, suspended over a river gorge, the thrill of adventure is palpable, making this a must-do for those seeking a unique perspective of Matera.
“Tough, but worth the view - Claudio was a very experienced hiker and engaging tour guide. His grandparents lived in Matera and so he had some personal connection to the area. He took us down the gorge and across the bridge, up into the cave dwellings. We continued on into the stone churches and were able to see some original frescoes. At the very top, we had an amazing view of the city of Matera. This is an arduous climb and highly recommended to have proper footwear (I noticed some people in flip-flops! Sturdy shoes are best). Some scrambling involved. If you fear heights, I would not recommend. There are no guard rails, with the exception of the swinging bridge. Once at the top, you had the option of requesting a transport back to town, but we chose to go back the way we came. Bring water! You won’t get a view of Matera like this any other way.” - Reviewed on 2024-06-29
