- Matera - The journey begins in Matera, where the city’s rich history and breathtaking landscapes await exploration. The operator will share stories of Matera’s evolution and its remarkable transformation from a symbol of poverty to a UNESCO World Heritage site. The tour starts in the ancient Sassi districts, guiding visitors through a maze of cave dwellings and alleys. Discover how these caves served as homes, churches, and monasteries, offering a glimpse into the lives of people over thousands of years. To gain a deeper understanding of life in the Sassi, the tour includes a visit to a “Casa Grotta,” a restored cave home furnished as it was centuries ago. After some free time for lunch, the journey continues to Alberobello.
- Alberobello - Upon arrival in Alberobello, the tour begins with a visit to this charming town, renowned for its iconic Trulli houses. Two remarkable districts, Aia Piccola and Rione Monti, will be explored. Aia Piccola is a quieter area with fewer tourists, where some Trulli are still used as private homes. Rione Monti, although more touristy, features picturesque streets lined with hundreds of Trulli, the town’s signature whitewashed, conical-roofed dwellings. A visit to a trullo house will provide insight into its construction and how people lived within. Additionally, the tour includes a visit to the unique church dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, built in trullo style, harmonizing with the surrounding architecture. After some free time to explore independently, the tour concludes with a return to the accommodation.
