Additional Information

Tours by Polynesian Adventure Maui are now available and we eagerly await the opportunity to share the island’s splendor with you. As part of our efforts to aid the healing of the west side, we respectfully request your assistance. We are also excited to show visitors the other extraordinary regions of Maui that remain pristine.

Experience the start of a new day from the summit of Haleakala (or house of the sun) – a sleeping volcano that offers panoramic views of Maui’s eastern side. The rugged landscapes with deep crevices and slopes are the natural habitats of the exclusive Hawaiian Nene geese and the scarce Silversword plants.

A comfortable mini-coach will take you to an elevation of 9,740 feet, just shy of the peak where you’ll witness an unsurpassed sunrise; a breathtaking spectacle of lights and shades. The sunrise tour promises an enduring memory and is certainly a must-have experience on your Hawaiian trip. As you descend, soak in the vast views of Kula and the expansive Pacific Ocean, en-route to a breakfast at the local hot-spot, Mill House Restaurant in Waikapu.

  • Please contact the tour provider at minimum of 7 days prior to the tour date for ADA and all special requests.
  • Haleakala is known for rapidly changing weather conditions and dense clouds and rain are common. As a result, clear viewing of the sunrise is not guaranteed, and the tour operates rain or shine. Refunds will be granted only when the tour is cancelled for safety reasons.
  • The high altitude at the summit area may complicate health conditions and breathing difficulties. Elderly visitors, pregnant women, young children, and those with respiratory or heart conditions should consult their doctor prior to touring. Walk slowly and drink water to avoid dehydration. If you have gone scuba diving, you should wait at least 72 hours before going on this tour.

Beautiful sunrise with breezy beginning - Was picked up in front of resort by bus to go to volcano top / mountain. Dink our tour guide was very respectful and let everyone sleep to start because we were picked up at 250 am. About 30 mi uses out he gave clear instructions and everyone got off vehicle for tour. It was very cold and extremely breezy with winds at about 40 moh and 40 degrees with wind chill. We waited for about 50 minutes for total sunrise that was beautiful with clear sky and noted being above clouds since you are at visitor center just below 10000 feet. Afterwards we went to go have breakfast and Dino gave extensive history information about everything around area and the islands to include answering all questions.

Worth the freezing - The views were amazing. Although at times it was very very cold because of the wind. No one tells you about the wind! Definitely bring a winter hat, gloves, and a winter jacket. I had a short sleeve shirt on, a long sleeve and a light hoodie. Jeans and tennis shoes. It was NOT enough because of the wind. This was June 2024. Despite the freezing wind the tour was and views were worth it! We stopped at a couple of places down the mountain to take pictures too.

Breathtaking! - Wayne was fantastic!! Dress warm, take a blanket, I’m Canadian & it was definitely a lot chillier than I thought it was going to be. There is nowhere to buy anything, until after the sun rises. This was an incredible experience, one I would do over again. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen. We were lucky enough to lay our eyes on a double dragons eye sunrise. If you’re on the fence, don’t be! Book it! You can sleep on the way up, it’s too dark to see anything anyways!

Beautiful Sunrise-Very Cold and Windy - Sunrise was beautiful. Very cold and windy. Be sure to bring gloves, toboggan, and jacket. Driver was very knowledgeable about history, flora, and fauna. Breakfast was good. I had the eggs and bacon, but wish I had chosen the macadamia nut pancakes- they looked delicious. Only negative was that it was crowded and by the time we arrived on the mountain, so I had trouble finding a good viewing area (I’m short, so second row doesn’t work for me). Gift shop was crowded and I felt rushed-park issue-outside of tour control. Overall would recommend.

Sunrise-Beautiful, but Cold and Windy - Sunrise was beautiful. Bus driver was friendly and knowledgeable. Learned a lot about the history of the area and the flora and fauna. The only negative was that it was crowded by the time we arrived and since I’m short, it was a little hard finding a good viewing area. Also felt a little rushed in the gift shop-not the tours fault. It was small and very crowded. Very cold. Bring warm gear.

Brief Beautuful Sunrise - This tour was not great. The bus arrived too late at the top for any stargazing and then didn't stay long enough to fully enjoy the sunrise. It was barely up in the sky and we had to go. I also didn't have enough time to get a shirt from the souvenir shop. Too late for the full experience, too rushed, too much money for a quick site of the sunrise and a decent breakfast. If you like tours and not moving at your own pace you may like this but as a family we thought it could have been done better for the cost. Give your people more time to do what they came to see. If they are done looking at the sunrise or are cold let them in the van, but for those of us that came with warm clothes, we should have more than 30 minutes to witness the beginning of the day. Honestly we should have been there for 2 hrs total. All told we were there from 5:15-6:10 (Sunrise 5:37am) but at the restaurant from 8:30-9:45. That seems a bit unbalanced. We will not recommend this to a friend. You can register for $1 for a reservation 60 days prior if you are comfortable driving up a mountain. I was extremely disappointed to learn this too late and then didn't have any other option but this tour.
