This is worth the early start! - Preston was fantastic! His knowledge of the area and history were top notch, and he gave us ample time to see everything, never rushed us. The sunrise experience was amazing, the light and the colors, then the crater is finally visible, this is a must-see! We were fortunate to have excellent weather - 49F and little to no wind, a very clear morning - which all combined to create an incredible experience.

It’s a must do! Be prepared for weather! - Had a great time! Didn’t even see the sunrise but still give it a 5 Got picked up from our hotel at 3:20AM. Friendly driver We were transported to a larger vehicle with another group of people and all together drove to the crater. Driver was careful, experienced, friendly, humorous, informative and courteous. At the top - it can be very COLD and WET! The altitude is so high that you’re in the clouds with high winds. Dress accordingly - rain jacket, waterproof pants, warm layers underneath that you can remove easily once finished. Unfortunately it was too foggy to see the sunrise clearly. We were there for around 1.5 - 2 hours. It was fun to look towards the crater and see the wind gradually clear the fog revealing the crater. I did see the sunrise colors briefly through the clouds. The bathrooms are pretty clean and the information center had friendly staff and cool souvenirs. The drive back was awesome! The driver stopped at scenic locations, allowed us time for photos, shared some very interesting information about the history of Maui, and overall was a great guide. Great views of Maui for a majority of the ride! The food was pretty good too! I recommend getting the pancakes if you want a big breakfast. The “plantation breakfast” was smaller than I anticipated but was still good. Overall I think that it was wonderful to see the views and learn some history from someone who’s lived there for a good chunk of time. I was able to enjoy the scenery without having to drive as well as get great advice for various other Maui related things.

Early morning adventure! - Early morning start but well worth it. Tour guide was great and very informative, sharing so much about the island and its history along the way. Rain and cold weather gear a must!

Breathtaking sunrise tour - The sunrise tour is incredibly breathtaking. There were no words to describe it. We lucked out with absolutely perfect weather. It was 49F when we arrived at the near 10k peak. We’ve heard it can be very cold. With our light coats and layers we were completely comfortable. The tour bus/truck/van was brand new and very comfortable. Our tour guide was Preston. He was knowledgeable, prompt, and entertaining.

Recommend - Our guide (Preston) was excellent with his story telling, knowledge and advice. I really appreciated his sense of humor. And his great driving.I will definitely recommend taking the tour instead of just driving myself. The location for breakfast was beautiful but breakfast stop at Cafe O’Lei was a little disappointing with food being so-so and delayed service.

Great excursion with some downsides - Preston was a great guide and an amazing driver to and from The excursion. Sadly there was too much cloud cover to see the sunrise but we did get to see the crater which was amazing it was cold and wet and even still when the visitor center opened it made things a little bit better. But the view was amazing a must see for anyone who comes to Maui!
