Haleakala Sunset - We had a great experience with Mitchell, who was very friendly and informative throughout the entire drive. The sunset was stunning and he took us directly to a prime viewing area. We are so glad we didn’t drive ourselves, as some parts of the roads don’t have railings and there are sometimes random cows on the road. Don drove us back to our hotel and was just as friendly and kind! Highly recommend

Adventures @ peek hours. - Absolutely beautiful weather. Very little wind. Tour guide Preston from Polynesian Adventures was very educated on subject matter.

Most beautiful sunset. - The view at the top of Haleakala was worth the long ride to the top. Our guide, Mitchel, was very knowledgeable and narrated the entire trip. Be prepared, it is very windy and cold at the top. Polynesian Adventure Tours is top notch. They will pick you up at your hotel. Our tour was called - Haleakala Sunset Tour - A Spectacular Show

Comfortable Experience with the Best Tour Guide - David did a great job telling us the history of Hawaii and Haleakala on the way to the crater and sunset tour. We were fortunate to have good weather on the way and even as we arrived at the ranger station and fog rolled in it was only a short while before it cleared away and allowed us to view a beautiful sunset. The transportation vehicle was very comfortable and practically new. Several other different tours we had taken had less than good suspension and comfort in the days before this one making for a rough ride. We appreciated David's knowledge and well travelled experience of the world very much. He made us feel like family with many conversations in route. Bring a jacket as the temperature was in the high 40's F and windy!

Nice sunset tour to the top of Haleakala - 5 and a half hour round trip to the top of Haleakala. There was enough time - almost 90 minutes at the top to take in the views and do a small hike. Views would have been nicer if there was no cloud cover which was the case when we had done the sunrise tour some years back.

Just ok. Drive yourself up the mountain. - When booking, I thought it was a 1:30-8:30p tour (7 h) but was informed after purchasing that it was more like 4.5h. We left the pickup site 25 mins late, so we were rushed for time in the visitors center. The driver was nice, but wasn't an engaging tour guide so not much was learned going up the mountain. There was no talking/tour on the way down. I feel like the cost should have been half the price I paid.

The volcano was great but Polynesian Adventures was terrible! - Polynesian adventures is not geared for managing pick up and drop offs at hotels. We were told a pick up time of 1:55pm. We were picked up at 2:52pm. There was no email or text sent. We were waiting for an hour and I called the Polynesian call centre thrice only to be told each time that the shuttle was 15-20mins away. When the shuttle finally came, no reason was given for the delay. We were then transported to another shuttle, only for the driver to apologize to everyone else already on for the delay as if it was our fault. When I asked this second driver named David the reason for the us not getting picked up at the hotel, his only response was “I dont know and I am not responsible” - this was his verbatim response. On the way back from Haleakala, the vehicle broke down with no indication of when a replacement/fix would be made available. We decided to get our own uber so that we could try to make our dinner reservation in time. On the way out, David asks for our last name so that he can cross is off the drop off list. I give him our last name to which he then says “Hold on! Im still tending to other customers”. Not only was he rude, he made it look like we were adding to his troubles. Overall, terrible transportation experience, David is not a great guide since he isn’t well versed/rehearsed, and we didn’t appreciate being spoken to rudely after we had been nothing but understanding since we still made the sunset. Recommend to folks to choose an alternative Haleakala tour operators and if Polynesian is the only one, check in advance of David is your guide.
