A great bike ride with Maui Bombers - The Cycle to the Sea tour with Maui Bombers was the bomb. As a three to four days a week Wisconsin cyclist, I was looking forward to riding from 6,500 ft above sea level down Haleakala. The tour met and even exceeded my expectations.
Matt and Eric are great guides making sure the group was comfortable on the Trek bikes and having fun. The bikes were in all great condition and the couple of times we had to ride up short inclines the shifting was very smooth. Also having bike helmets instead of full face helmets was a big plus. Matt has a fantastic set of songs as a soundtrack for your ride down the switchbacks of Haleakala. He also takes photos and videos as you ride and then Airdrops the results to the group after reaching the end of the ride. These special extras are included in the cost of the tour.
Eric follows the group down in the Honda Pilot which allows cars coming down the mountain to know that there are bikers ahead on the road. He also lets Matt know that cars are coming so Matt can signal the group that we need to move to the side of the lane. On the day we rode there was very little traffic so we had the whole lane to ourselves most of the time.
The tour included delicious snacks, water or Gatorade. The lunch in Makawao was also delish with several items to chose from. The second half of the tour was also downhill from Makawao thru Paia and then on to Baldwin Park where we finished at the “sea”. I rode this solo as my wife is not a cyclist but enjoyed riding with the other three cyclists in the group. Big thanks to Matt for making sure I was able to ride with this group as he needs more than one rider for the tour. If you are trying to decide which bike tour to go with, I would highly recommend Maui Bombers.

Great bike ride - We all had a fun time on our tour. Matt and Eric were great guides, had yummy snacks for us, and made the trip a memorable experience.
We appreciated having the bike helmets vs the full face helmets that other companies use, and liked our small group.

The Buckeye Bikers Go OSU - The tour was great and I would do it again when in Maui. It was a great trip down the mountain. The snacks were great and the lunch was excellent, get the fish.

Highly Recommend - If you are looking for a Haleakala bike experience this is it! My husband and I had an awesome time on this bike ride. Matt and his crew are so personable and accommodating. I've had other family members do some of the larger group rides down the mountain and they did not have nearly the same experience that we did with Maui Bombers. We recommend this tour to anyone we know going to Maui.

Perfect excursion! A must do! - Everything about this tour was great. The weather was not at the beginning but Matt provides windbreakers, gloves and helmets. They take you to 6500 feet and all the way down there was no traffic. One of their cars follows you so you feel safe at all times. We stopped a few times to connect and then biked to this lovely town and had lunch which they paid for. They also provide water and homemade muffins and cookies that were amazing.
The views were incredible and the tour was the highlight of our trip. It’s a must do if in Maui!
They also provide photos and videos which was great!

My son's favorite thing we did in Hawaii - We had a great time with Matt and crew! Haleakala Road was still closed (due to wildfire) when we were there so they had a modified trip for us. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and the ride was really fun, nearly all downhill at a pace fast enough to entertain my 15 and 17 year old sons. We'd just arrived in Maui the night before so, while driving to the starting point, Matt, Alex, and Eric shared lots of helpful info about the island and things to do, and patiently answered our many questions. It was interesting to hear about what brought them to the island and what their experience living there has been like. Bikes and helmet were great quality and safety tips were helpful prior to beginning the ride. As everyone mentions, Matt made homemade coconut muffins that we absolutely loved and got to eat mid-ride. We had an AMAZING lunch in Makawao, and homemade mango cookies baked by Matt, and then a little time to explore the town before heading out for the final leg of the ride. We had contemplated doing the sunrise bike tour but are really glad we did this one instead. It felt more personalized, there was our family of 4 plus one other family of 4 and that was it- just 8 of us plus Matt - for the trip. Matt was easy to get in touch with, promptly returned my calls when inquiring about this before traveling to Maui. The only bummer was he took pics and video but something went wrong and he was not able to share them with us. My 15 year old says this was his favorite activity of the whole trip - over 10 days/2 islands and many excursions. That's saying a lot!

A Perfect Day - Matt and Eric are warm, knowledgeable, and conversational guides who make this a one-of-kind experience. The freshly baked sweet treats are an added bonus.

Must do Maui Adventure. - Such a fun adventure for me and my teenage son. Part I was spectacular views and adrenaline and Part Ii was a flowing downhill ride with the best parts of Maui you will never visit alone. Guides/owners were super friendly and fun and was an adventure to remember for us. Would rate it over 5 if I could!

Highlight of Maui trip! - Amazing trip! Beautiful scenery, wonderful weather, great bikes and all the extra gear needed, Matt’s delicious home-baked goodies, and support vehicles to block traffic for added safety. There are lots of bike tour options on Maui. I haven’t tried the others but this one is designed to be the best and it is excellent. Matt keeps the groups limited to 10 or fewer people. We had 10 people with two support vehicles. Lunch on the way down was included. Highly recommended! It starts later than the sunrise trips, which means you can get more sleep and deal with less traffic on the way down.
The local government requires all bike tour groups to get back in the vehicles for the middle part of the ride. The trip would be even better if not for this requirement but unless you want to take a bike up by yourself and ride down unsupported, Maui bombers is the way to go. If I had more time on Maui, I’d book this trip again.
