Wahou - The land of 7 colors and the waterfall are must-sees of Mauritius and once there we understand the reason. The colors are just beautiful. You can also see turtles and baby turtles.

What you expect - Very nice to have a good time. Ideally, go on a sunny day to appreciate the place better. Inside you will find toilet service, a small souvenir business, a place to eat something fast or have an ice cream.

Excellent geology winner allowing with pretty waterfall - 7 coloured earth is formed as a result of vulcanic eruption and the chemical reaction of metals (iron, aluminium, copper, bauxite etc.) coming out of it with the oxygen in the air to form different coloured oxides. We could clearly see the seven colours and enjoyed the geology wonder. Weather was clean and in the late afternoon sun resulting into clarity of colours. With a visit for sure. In the surrounding area we also enjoyed seeing large tortoises which are present almost at all attraction places in Mauritius. Drinking (expensive) coffee at the cafeteria there was a very pleasing experience. Could watch birds like bulbul, red munia etc while sipping coffee. The adjacent waterfall is also marvellous. One can watch it at two levels. Watching from the top level is even better. The ancient is superb and quite serene. Enough parking space provided and good toilets too. Overall a must visit location

Beautiful site, worth a visit. - For several years now I have been coming to Mauritius without having stopped at the 7 colors earth because I had been told that it was not "extraordinary". I decided to go this year to see what it looked like and I have no regrets! The ticket office is reached by car and there is a first parking 2km away. We can observe a very beautiful and gigantic waterfall. Great point of view. A priori there may also be monkeys but we have not had the chance to see them... Then we reach a 2nd parking 2km further (the roads are paved and easily accessible with any car). You can admire the 7-colored earth and the aldabra turtles. It's very nice but if possible, it's better to come on a day when it's sunny to better see the shades of color. Indeed, as soon as there was a cloud, it was "less" pretty. You don't have to be athletic or wear hiking gear. Even in the case of rain, it's not "gadgetful". Everything is well thought out to welcome visitors. Small Shopping Shop but not much in it...not even a small keychain with earth in 7 colors...a little pity. Ebony forest activity (fees apply) possible on the site as well as the lavilleon adventure Park. Museum of optical illusions right in front of the site. Rumerie a few kilometers away. Ganga talao lake about twenty kilometers. Duration of the visit: About 1 hour Prix: 550 rupees per adult (11 euros) and free for children under 5 years old.

Views were cool, but barely any parking, Quick Look and you’re done. - We got up there and they didn’t take card. We just had enough cash for entry, but had no idea in advance. It’s a business, not a street vendor, TAKE CARD!

Not the vibrancy of colour I was anticipating sadly - Having booked our holiday to Mauritius last year, this was one place we had on our list to visit. The photographs we had seen of this site looked stunning with the various colours of the earth looking vibrant and bright. The reality however was much more of a disappointment! Chamerel is situated at the South of the island and as we were staying in Belle Mare, it took us about two hours by car to get there. The roads leading up to Chamerel are narrow with so many bends and turns in it, we were almost giddy by the time we arrived. Entrance to the park is about £10.00 and leads you via roadways through wooded areas. The first place you will arrive a viewpoint for the waterfall where there is parking for cars. To get a better view of the waterfall, you can climb steps built into the earth which takes about 5 minutes to climb from where the view is much better. When we reached the coloured earths, we were both very disappointed as the colours in reality were nothing like the "touched up" tourist ones. The walkway around the site is a mixture of boards and solid ground ans there are giant tortoises in an enclosure with other animals elsewhere housed similarly. To visit other areas at this site like the Ebony Forest, separate charges and fees will apply and so we didn't bother. After having built ourselves up for this attraction we left feeling somewhat disappointed although the waterfall was a sight to behold.
