Highlights

Djerba - Douz - Bir Abdhull

Matmata - The oasis of Douz, also known as the “Gate of the Desert,” is a major crossing point of the Sahara. This typical nomadic village is famous for its high-quality dates and is situated on the edge of the Erg Oriental, a vast sea of dunes stretching from Algeria through Tunisia to Libya. In Douz, we will share a meal, and you can purchase a turban if you wish.

After dinner, we will drive approximately 90 minutes directly into the desert, where the Bedouin team with the dromedaries will be waiting for us. The first night’s camp will be set up, and it’s time to pitch tents. If you prefer to sleep under the stars, find a nice spot to lay out your sleeping bag.

Douz - On the seventh day, we will be picked up in a 4x4 off-road vehicle from the beautiful Bedouin camp around 9:00 a.m. after our last hearty breakfast in nature. We will then continue to Douz, the “Gate of the Desert” and a major crossing point of the Sahara. This typical nomadic village, surrounded by sand dunes, is also famous for its high-quality dates. We will visit the city center and the traditional souks.

Matmata - After a 1.5-hour drive, we will encounter the cave dwellings of the Berbers, known as “Troglodyte Houses.” Only a few people have retained their original way of living. We can visit one of these houses to get an idea of the Berber lifestyle. Taking photos and asking questions is always welcome by the owners of this “attraction.”

Djerba Island - We will continue our journey towards Djerba, taking a ferry that takes about 20 minutes across the Mediterranean to leave the mainland. We will then proceed through the island of Djerba, known for its olive groves and Mediterranean charm, which captivates countless tourists with its “Caribbean” flair, turquoise-blue sea, and sandy beaches.

Return flight from Djerba to the original destination

Djerba Island - On the last day of our unforgettable desert tour, we will have breakfast and, depending on the flight time, transfer to the airport.

On the road with the sons of the desert - The desert trekking was fantastic again, my umpteenth desert tour with Mounir and his proven Bedouin crew. I stopped counting at 30, because I have been traveling with him two or three times a year since 2009. Sometimes alone, sometimes with groups. I have always found him to be totally reliable, warm and competent as a desert guide. He has known the Sahara south of Douz since he was a child, because he was born on the edge of the desert and went on trekking tours with his father and uncle as a teenager. Simply brilliant...

You just have to see it - You can't describe it, you have to experience it yourself. Simply a dream. Mounir the guide was great. Friendly, helpful, speaks several languages, everything went wonderfully. I can only recommend everyone to do this tour with him. I'll be back...

Through the sand to happiness - The desert tour (1 week) was just wonderful. I felt so well looked after from the start and can highly recommend Mounir's team. The communication beforehand and the organization on site were excellent. Thank you for everything! I'll be back :)

Unforgettable! - I went from noise to silence and found nothingness in the desert. It's wonderful when the wind blows over the dunes and leaves its mark as waves in this incredibly fine sand. This mighty nature captivates you every moment. Recommended once a year to prevent burnout! I felt wonderfully looked after by Mounir and his team, their calm and caring attitude. I'm looking forward to seeing my friends again - the desert and the team!

Beautiful desert tour - A wonderful, eventful time. Hiking with the dromedaries, the silence of the desert, the starry sky The music of the Bedouins around the fire And every day a wonderful sunrise and sunset. Indescribably beautiful I would love to come back

Wonderful time in the Sahara - I have been able to do this tour several times, alone and with friends, and can recommend it without reservation. The vastness of the desert during the day, the endless starry sky at night. It is difficult to describe, you have to experience it. The desert "repairs" you, you feel re-grounded. Bread is baked every morning and fresh food is cooked over the fire twice a day. I have rarely eaten so well and with such variety. In the evening, tourists and Bedouins sit together around the fire. They tell stories, play music (drums and flutes), sing, dance and laugh. A community quickly develops. You can get around on foot or on a dromedary, whichever you prefer. I miss the desert and am already looking forward to my next adventure there

Best holiday ever! - From knowing nothing about the desert, the life of the Bedouins, the beauty of the landscape, the oases, the sky at night - to the best relaxation through the silence and also through the sensitive care of the Bedouin crew - it was the best vacation of our lives!

Not necessarily suitable for women travelling alone. - The trip was a brilliant experience. The weather was good. My wife and I were able to relax well. We enjoyed the peace and simplicity. Everyone made a lot of effort to give the tourists a unique experience. The evenings around the campfire were the highlight of each day, as was the delicious dinner. No one has to starve on the tour, there is enough breakfast, lunch and dinner, actually far too much and always very tasty. There is also something for vegetarians. I didn't like the leader of the group. He was more focused on women. As a pretty woman, I wouldn't necessarily recommend the trip to the desert alone. Hence the points deduction.

Price and performance disproportionate - I actually wanted a desert adventure. The people were OK. The food tasted OK. They even thought of something for vegetarians. I have been to Oman, Jordan, Mongolia and other regions with desert tours. In terms of price-performance ratio, this was the most expensive option of the desert tours.

Price and performance disproportionate - I now have experience of the desert and have found other providers. Better services for 400 euros less. The crew tries hard and it was OK, but nothing more. I recommend contacting other providers before booking here.
